Experienced
Data Governance Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead and enforce data governance practices within the
marketing domain. This individual will serve as the key liaison between marketing, analytics, IT, and data governance teams to ensure that customer and campaign data is accurate, compliant, and aligned with enterprise data strategies. The ideal candidate will bring strong knowledge of marketing data ecosystems, data stewardship, and regulatory compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
Key Responsibilities
- Data Quality & Stewardship: Establish and maintain data quality standards for marketing data such as customer profiles, segmentation, campaigns, and consent data. Proactively identify and resolve data quality issues.
- Metadata & Catalog Management: Define and maintain business glossaries, metadata, and data lineage for marketing data assets across CRM, CDP, ESP, and analytics platforms.
- Policy & Compliance: Ensure compliance with data privacy and marketing regulations (e.g., CAN-SPAM, GDPR, CCPA). Oversee consent management and data usage policies.
- Data Access & Security: Work with IT and security teams to implement role-based access control and protect sensitive customer data within marketing platforms.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate closely with marketing, data science, IT, and enterprise governance teams to define data requirements and promote governance best practices.
- Reference & Master Data Management: Maintain standardized reference data and support master data efforts for campaign classifications, offer types, and customer segments.
- Governance Oversight: Participate in data governance councils or working groups. Serve as the voice of marketing data governance in enterprise data initiatives.
- Training & Enablement: Conduct training for marketing and analytics teams on data stewardship responsibilities, data definitions, and governance tools.
- Lifecycle Management: Oversee the full lifecycle of marketing data – from creation and usage to archival and deletion – in alignment with governance policies.
- Support Innovation: Guide data governance integration into new marketing technologies and initiatives, including CDP adoption, personalization strategies, and AI/ML use cases.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Management, Marketing, Information Systems, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in data governance, data stewardship, or data management roles.
- Strong understanding of marketing data platforms (e.g., Salesforce,, CDPs).
- Hands-on experience with metadata management, data quality tools, and governance frameworks.
- Familiarity with data privacy regulations and marketing compliance standards.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working in cross-functional, matrixed environments.
- Experience working with senior business and IT leadership ( VP and C Level)
Preferred Skills
- Certifications in data governance (e.g., DCAM, CDMP) or marketing platforms (e.g., Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Adobe Campaign).
- Knowledge of data catalog tools (e.g., Collibra, Informatica) is a plus.
