The Data Governance Manager will play a pivotal role in supporting and enhancing the Data Governance Program at the University. This program encompasses administrative data across WSU, including student records, IT, human resources, advancement, alumni, and financial data. The role involves university-wide engagement, building connections across schools, divisions, and departments to foster shared understanding and use of WSU data assets. As the university becomes more data-informed, the Manager ensures stakeholders understand data definitions, accessibility, and proper usage. This position is responsible for coordinating, maintaining, and improving the data governance framework, focusing on data integrity, quality, protection, and effective management. The Manager will work closely with stakeholders to ensure adherence to data governance standards, develop and implement data management policies, and support initiatives that align with the university's strategic goals. The Manager will serve as subject matter expert on data governance processes, best practices, effective implementation, and ongoing administration.
Required Qualifications
Required:
* Bachelor's degree in Data Management, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field
* Minimum of three years of full-time, job-related experience
* Experience with business intelligence and analytics
* Experience in writing technical documents, standards, or policies
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred:
* Master's degree in a related educational area and/or relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP), Certified Data Professional (CDP), Data Governance Stewardship Professional (DGSP), or Certified Information Management Professional (CIMP)).
* In-depth understanding of data management concepts (e.g., data quality, data stewardship, data classification, metadata management) and data governance principles, including compliance regulations.
* Strong project management skills with the ability to lead large, complex cross-functional initiatives and provide guidance to individuals outside direct reporting lines.
* Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to engage effectively across all levels of staff and senior administration.
* Self-motivated, results-oriented, and adaptable, with the ability to make decisions in dynamic environments and anticipate future needs.
* Proficiency in data management tools and technologies, including technical skills such as knowledge of SQL.
