Messerli & Kramer, P.A. is an industry-leading consumer collection firm representing numerous national creditors. The Collections Division located in Plymouth, MN is seeking an experienced Data Engineer who will excel in a challenging, fast-paced environment. This hands-on position requires candidates to be both technically proficient and astute on a business level.

The Data Engineer is responsible for working directly with the Data Operations team to maintain our multiple vendor software data environments / integrations while ensuring sustained data exchange between the firm and its clients. The position is a blend of challenging and intellectual duties including data analysis/reporting, data modeling, vendor communication, multi system integration, documentation, and heavy data centric development. The position requires the ability to be technically adept and agile in approaching complex and changing demands. This position also involves working with senior leadership to ensure the quality of our reporting and operational processes are efficient, streamlined, and automated wherever optimal. This role focuses on integrating and optimizing business-critical software solutions rather than large-scale ETL or Spark frameworks. It offers a unique opportunity to work directly with vendor platforms, streamline operations, and improve our core business processes in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain customized integrations with vendor management software and APIs to enhance business processes.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to ensure effective communication and sustained data exchange.
  • Design and support tailored business system integrations that meet unique operational needs.
  • Create automation/AI solutions that streamline business workflows and reporting.
  • Develop SQL/Python/PowerShell-based jobs for targeted business data processing tasks.
  • Provide technical expertise in the maintenance of multi-system data environments and integrations.
  • Partner with operations and leadership to enhance reporting capabilities and build scalable business intelligence solutions.
  • Analyze and validate data mapping for consistency and accuracy.
  • Manage Agile backlog prioritization and team process documentation.
  • Support client reconciliations and inventory/financial data audits.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in data/software engineering with a focus on business process integrations.
  • Demonstrated experience with vendor software customization and API integrations.

Competencies

  • Expertise in customizing and integrating vendor systems to meet business needs.
  • Proficiency of two or more of the following: Java, .NET, Power BI and Python.
  • Proficiency in SQL Server 2022, SQL Management Studio, SSIS, SSRS, Crystal Reports, PowerShell, Microsoft Office, and Adobe.
  • Proficiency with mature Development and Agile methodologies and best practices.
  • Proficiency with maintaining a blend of On-Premise and Azure Cloud infrastructure best practices and Security Architecture.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel.
  • The ability to manage multiple deadlines and demonstrated experience identifying and implementing automation to enhance organizational efficiency.
  • Proficiency with data integrity QA processes.
  • Familiarity with compliance requirements and the remediation process.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on enhancing core business processes.
  • Familiarity with compliance standards and basic accounting principles.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

This role operates in a professional office setting, routinely working with standard office equipment. Generally, due to the nature of this office position, the person in this role would be required to talk and hear, sit or stand for long period of time, and use their hands and fingers, to handle and feel. Occasionally required to walk, reach with arms and hand, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, or crouch. Regularly required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Vision abilities required by the job include close vision.

Wage Disclaimer: The starting wage for this position is $90,000-$125,000/year. The wage range for this position is $90,000-$140,000/year.
