Your Team

Join the Information Technology team at Flair as a Data Engineer, supporting the development and optimization of our enterprise data platform in a dynamic, office-based environment. In this role, you will build and maintain ETL pipelines, ingest data from multiple sources, perform data profiling, develop dimensional models, and contribute to technical documentation. You’ll also play a key role in implementing data governance practices, optimizing performance, monitoring data quality, and supporting policy development. The ideal candidate is analytical, detail-oriented, and experienced in modern data engineering practices, with a strong commitment to ensuring reliable and high-quality data infrastructure. This role reports to the Data Engineer Lead and is based on-site at any of our offices in Calgary, AB (YYC), Edmonton, AB (YEG), or Vancouver, BC (YVR).

A Day In The Life

As a Data Engineer, you will:

• Design and build modern data pipelines and streaming processes to enable efficient, reliable data integration.
• Monitor, maintain, and optimize data warehouse performance to ensure high availability, reliability, and scalability.
• Develop and maintain data models to support business intelligence and analytics needs.
• Recommend architectural enhancements for scalable, high-performance data solutions.
• Define and enforce standards for data ingestion, ETL processes, and data modeling, ensuring thorough documentation and consistency.
• Monitor data quality, identify discrepancies, and implement strategies to resolve data issues and maintain data integrity.
• Create and maintain detailed technical documentation for data processes and workflows, promoting clarity and consistency.
• Support the development of data policies and assist in implementing effective data governance frameworks.
• Collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, business stakeholders, and external partners to ensure alignment on data initiatives and organizational objectives.
  
  

What You Bring To The Role

• Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, computer engineering, or equivalent specialized training, certification, or work experience.
• Experience:
• Minimum of 4 years of relevant full-time experience in a corporate environment.
• Proven ability to implement data warehouses to support business intelligence initiatives.
• Skilled in working with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Proficient in Snowflake and DBT for data transformation and warehousing.
• Strong knowledge of dimensional modeling and OLAP techniques.
• Experienced with APIs using JSON and XML formats.
• Comfortable leading technical teams or working independently, depending on project needs.
• Familiar with Agile development methodologies and CI/CD practices.
• Hands-on use of tools such as Power BI, Fivetran, GitHub, and Jira in professional settings.
• Background in airline technology or related industry is considered an asset.
• Skills and Abilities:
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages commonly used in data engineering, such as Python, Java, Scala, or SQL.
• Strong understanding of data engineering principles, including data ingestion, transformation, modeling, and integration.
• Demonstrated organizational skills with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Familiarity with version control, development lifecycle tools, and agile best practices
• Results-driven with a bias for action.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
• Commitment to continuous learning and process improvement.
• Requirements:
• Clear criminal record check and satisfactory references.
• Must be legally eligible to work in Canada without restriction.
