GI Alliance is seeking an experienced Data Engineer II.
Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Position Purpose
The Data Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining the entire technical stack of the GIA Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).
Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

- Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes using Snowflake and Matillion.
- Optimize and troubleshoot data workflows to ensure data integrity, performance, and reliability.
- Ingesting data from all external sources, modeling and structuring data stores, moving data from source to target, and presenting data securely and efficiently to meet operational and financial reporting needs.
- Maintaining third-party data integrations and ingesting historical data from new practice acquisitions into the EDW.
- Other duties as assigned.
Technical Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in data engineering, with a focus on the healthcare industry.
- Proficiency in Snowflake and Matillion for data integration and transformation.
- Strong SQL skills and experience with data modeling and database design.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and data warehousing concepts.
- 3-5 years of experience in Python development, including Numpy and Pandas library, Snowflake connector for Python SDK, Jupyter Notebooks, Azure SDK, and custom module imports. Experience loading and transforming data using Pandas data frames.
- 3-5 years of experience in collaborating on source code using Git repositories, including pull request reviews and branching strategies. Proficient in platforms such as GitHub, Azure DevOps, GitLab, or similar user interfaces.
- Developing data integrations and loading and mapping data from disparate sources into a relational database platform using code editor such as VS Code, integrated with GitHub repositories.
- Creating source-to-target mapping (STM) documentation, understanding data types and sizing, and representing relational tables using data modeling tools and MS Excel.
- Knowledge of data governance, security, and compliance in the healthcare industry.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Industry Specific Experience
- Development of financial data integrations and mappings from legacy to target schemas. Demonstrate conceptual knowledge of period accounting data, how to collect, present and validate charges, refunds, payments, voids to balance a period from the legacy system to a reporting system.
- Development of medical data integrations and mappings from disparate file(s) into a target reporting schema. Demonstrate detailed knowledge of medical data, periods of care, CPT codes, encounters, service dates, primary
- Implement data governance and security best practices to protect sensitive healthcare data.
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation to ensure high standards of data engineering practices.
- Monitoring and managing cost and usage limits to prevent exceedances.
Qualifications
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related IT systems program of study, or alternate program with equivalent IT related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Over 3 years of experience in Snowflake cloud database platform.
- Over 5 years of experience using VS Code integrated with Github.com source control repositories.
- Over 5 years of experience loading financial and/or medical data using Python and Pandas data frames and loading the data to cloud relational database platforms.
- Over 5 years of experience working on data engineering teams utilizing Agile methodology.
