Summary
Responsibilities
The Data Centre Analyst is responsible for the maintenance and operations of all data centre facilities across the enterprise. Plans, schedules, and executes the daily operational activities for all enterprise facilities, from the Data Centre to communication closets, while adhering to established IT change management policies and procedures. Monitors and maintains the operational aspects of the enterprise backup system. Develops and maintains documentation in support of the operation of the Data Centre. Mitigates operational and system risks in alignment with enterprise risk management and ensures the monitoring and analysis of Data Centre infrastructure statistical data. Plans and schedules the Data Centre infrastructure replacement lifecycle. Develops and refines Data Centre practices to follow accepted best practices.
Duties And Responsibilities
Plans, schedules, and executes the daily operational activities for all enterprise facilities ranging from the Data Centre to communication closets. These activities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Analyzes the ongoing performance of the Data Centre infrastructure including servers, storage and supporting systems to ensure optimal operation,
Assesses system power and cooling requirements at all sites and develop plans to increase the efficiency of those sites through a reduction in the consumption of both power and cooling,
Manages the support call lifecycle with infrastructure vendors in support of both component failures and analysis indicating component performance issues,
Provides expertise in the process of racking of network equipment, servers and storage according to data centre best practices.
Monitors and maintains the operational aspects of the enterprise backup system by:
Analyzes schedule policies and makes adjustments to backup windows as needed relative to the requirements of the business,
Recommends best practices and advancements that support the current IT strategy,
Monitors system health and daily backup jobs, performs on-demand restores of business data and the configuration of agents on computer systems.
Develops and maintains comprehensive documentation in support of the operation of the Data Centre. Documentation includes run books for all infrastructure components describing routine maintenance activities, standard operating procedures and system configurations.
Mitigates Operational And System Risk By
Analyzes operating system patches and system and storage firmware upgrades in support of enterprise risk management,
Plans and scheduling firmware upgrades and operating system patches with input from other BT teams to mitigate identified risks and within the parameters of the enterprise change management process,
Coordinates the testing of infrastructure components in collaboration with other enterprise teams,
Responds to emergency call-outs for immediate operational support as required.
Ensures the monitoring and analysis of Data Centre infrastructure as follows:
Develops infrastructure capacity monitoring programs to provide accurate forecasting and planning information,
Establishes KPIs to provide accurate dashboard information,
Monitors enterprise resource consumption and creates trending analysis for storage and servers,
Tracks power and cooling and summarizes consumption trends for dashboard reporting,
Summarizes status providing monthly dashboard reporting including, but not limited to, power and cooling usage and infrastructure capacities.
Plans and schedules the Data Centre infrastructure replacement lifecycle as follows:
Remains current on technology roadmaps and provides recommendations to the IT Operations management team related to the infrastructure replacement program,
Plans and schedules the introduction of new infrastructure into the Data Centre to review the changing technologies and determine suitability in the enterprise environment,
Prepares the configuration of infrastructure components for the enterprise procurement process,
Ensures assets, including racks, servers, storage, appliances and cabling are accurately recorded in the current asset management system,
Monitors the infrastructure equipment through the current asset management system.
Develops And Refines Data Centre Practices As Follows
Reviews current processes and procedures, identifies limitations, recommends and implements improvements,
Ensures the enterprise remains current on best practices and trends in data centre management,
Creates, reviews and maintains documentation in support of data centre best practices,
Contributes to the development of the Data Centre workplans.
Performs related duties as assigned, such being items of a minor nature that do not affect the value of the job.
Education
Qualifications
Requires a diploma in computer science from a recognized institute of technology specializing in network configuration and administration, and computer hardware systems.
Experience
Requires three (3) years previous experience in an information technology environment involving the installation, maintenance, operations, troubleshooting and support of corporate network and hardware systems, including one (1) year in a Data Centre environment supporting relevant power management, cooling and operation specific systems. A further period of up to one (1) year on the job is required to become thoroughly familiar with the enterprise architecture plan, IS policies and standards, the enterprise Data Centre and specific network and hardware components.
Additional Requirements
Candidate must hold a valid class 5 driver’s license.
Ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 50 lbs.

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.
Work Schedule
37.5 hours per week.

This position offers the flexibility of working both on-site and remotely within B.C.
Rate of Pay
Salary $8,236.33 - $9,896.62 per month (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity).
