Tell me about the job...
As a Data Center Operator, you will play a critical part in managing the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and optimization of the electrical and mechanical infrastructure supporting eStruxture’s mission-critical facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for facility monitoring, preventative maintenance, optimization, health and safety, incident response/reporting, capacity management, as well as planning & prioritizing corrective maintenance activities. The Data Center Operator will report directly to the Data Center Manager.

The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Responsible for Facility Health & Safety Management of both preventative and corrective infrastructure maintenance
- Develop, maintain, and adhere to procedural and technical documentation
- Respond to fault conditions, diagnose, and assist with root cause analysis/repair/remediation
- Management of local data center infrastructure and asset lifecycle
- Compliance with relevant SSAE 18, ISO and PCI controls
- Participate in weekly change management meetings, presenting to the Change Advisory Board, working with vendors to create supporting MOPs
- Identifying areas for operational optimization, adhering to best practices
- Monitoring of local data center infrastructure
- Supporting daily site operations
- Vendor/Contractor coordination and supervision
- Ensure timely resolution and/or escalation of customer issues
- Ensure physical and remote security policies and procedures are being strictly followed
- Create trouble tickets, log site visitors, and carry out shipping and receiving procedures
- Provide best in class customer service
- Maintain cleanliness of the data center and facility areas
- Rack and stack various IT hardware into racks.
- Install and test copper and fiber cables throughout the data center and various computer rooms.
Working Conditions
A minimum 40-hour work week is expected from Monday to Friday. Required to be part of the on-call coverage rotation (1 week at a time, every 3-4 weeks). On occasion, the candidate may have to work with challenging clients, work on shifts longer that the standard 8 hour shift, work on evenings, nights, or on weekends. Shift work in nature and depending on facility, may be a 24x7 shiftwork requirement.

Specialty
- 4+ years’ experience in data center, facility, or in mission critical environments.
- Experience working with Mechanical and Electrical systems, including BMS/EPMS and BAS systems & software.
- Experience with ticketing systems and ITIL principles*
Education/Certification/Designation
- Electrical certifications – Journeyman Electricians, Electrical Engineering Technologist etc.*
- Mechanical/HVAC certifications *
- CPR, AED certifications
- Ability to obtain Reliability Clearance Status (+5 years Canadian residency)
- ASP training *
Competencies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Extremely process driven and high degree of quality, precision and care needed.
- Understanding of Data Center Tiering classifications (UTI) as well as thermal guidelines and policy (ASHRAE TC9.9 etc.)
- Able to deliver independently and take lead on local initiatives
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint
- Physically able to lift up to 55ibs, climb ladders/work at heights
Technical Skills/Knowledge
- Strong Knowledge of power, mechanical, and life safety systems
- MV/LV Power Distribution Equipment, UPS’s, ATS’s, Emergency Generator Systems, Automation/PLC’s/VFD’s etc.
- CRAH’s/Chiller/AHU’s/FCU’s, condensers, pumps, compressors, control logic etc.
- Strong troubleshooting & analytical skills along with BMS/EPMS/CMMS operator knowledge
- Any of the above-mentioned would be considered as an asset*
