Meta is seeking a Chemical Engineer to join our Data Center Facilities Engineering (FacEng) team. As a key member of this team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient operation of our rapidly expanding global fleet of data centers, which serve as the foundation for our innovative services and infrastructure.The FacEng team delivers proactive and responsive full-life-cycle engineering expertise to the teams who operate and support our data centers. Our data centers utilize adiabatic cooling processes with evaporative water systems that require careful chemical treatment for continued operation. Data Center Facilities Engineering, Chemical Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Lead technically complex Chemical engineering projects for the facilities infrastructure operations team. This includes working cross functionally with other technical organizations including design teams, construction, field operations, vendors and R&D.
  • Engineering point of escalation for Chemical system issues that occur in our data centers.
  • Troubleshoot and engineer enhancements and corrective actions for designs and implementation processes/methods.
  • Conduct detailed analyses and audits of Chemical system utilization.
  • Develop effective measurements and reports from Building Management System (BMS) and other monitoring systems to optimize performance and reliability.
  • Evaluate systems to perform effective and efficient load management and capacity planning. Monitor, trend, and develop engineering metrics and statistical data for strategic planning.
  • Review new and retrofit Chemical designs, commissioning plans, and critical operational procedures.
  • Review Chemical "as-built" technical documentation and verify accuracy. Investigate actual site conditions and update records.
  • Develop and generate specifications, RFPs, ROMs and SOWs for projects.
  • Evaluate facility processes and industry best practices to drive efficiencies and effectiveness.
  • Routinely report and present to peers, partners and leadership.
  • 10 to 30% travel to data center and vendor sites for engineering studies, on-site technical support, Chemical systems audits, startup testing, and full commissioning.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4+ years professional experience in data center engineering, mission critical design, construction, operations, maintenance or related industry.
  • BS degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and engineering enhancements and corrective actions for designs and implementation processes/methods.
  • Experience clearly communicating technical issues.
  • Possess presentation, project management, and reporting skills.
  • Experience with computer based mathematical analysis and data analysis.
  • Experience driving complex projects under pressure.
  • Experience working independently and as a member of a cross functional team
  • 2+ years operational experience with water treatment systems, including but not limited to reverse osmosis (RO) plants and pretreatment processes (water softening and filtration)
  • Knowledge of water distribution systems
  • Knowledge of fluid handling systems and water distribution equipment
  • Experience correlating incoming water quality to operational issues

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional experience in data center engineering, mission critical design, construction, operations, maintenance or related industry.
  • Cross-discipline knowledge of multiple critical facility systems.
  • 4+ years operational experience with water treatment systems
  • Knowledge of complementary critical facility systems including electrical power distribution and life safety systems
  • Experience with HVAC systems, chilled water systems, condenser water systems, pump controls, Glycols, AHU units (DX, split, RTU, CRAC), and hot/cold aisle containment
  • Knowledge of evaporative cooling and water requirements through different mass transfer methods
  • Familiar with navigating Building Management System programs
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration or local equivalent
  • Organizational skills and experience beyond the field technician level in activities such as project management, project engineering, and operations management.

$167,000/year to $230,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
