Summary

Job Summary Responsible for all operations and maintenance of all venues within the Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) department. Through management, direction and supervision of subordinates, the Manager of Event Operations is accountable for short and long-range facility planning, event scheduling and coordination, facility support services such as security, maintenance, and facility administration and reporting. Essential Functions 1. Assists in the management and operation within the Venues Department. 2. Responsible for performing inspections, repairs and preventive maintenance on venues. 3. Hires, directs, instructs, trains, schedules, reviews and evaluates the performance of staff. 4. Monitors expenditures; maintains and analyzes activity, labor and volume reports; trains and evaluates and informs personnel. Responsible for implementing and supporting city policies and procedures. 5. Maintains necessary operational data for budgeting, planning and reporting. 6. Monitors, evaluates orders and controls all parts and supplies for CVB. 7. Ensures a high caliber of interior and exterior custodial and facility maintenance and repair through the direction of internal staff and outside contract services. 8. Conducts inspections with written appraisal of venues and copies executive management. 9. Participates in budget preparation and monitors the Division's operations budget. 10. Ensures that the building venues, surrounding grounds and equipment are secure and well maintained. 11. Ensures events and programs using the facility are not in conflict with City policies or procedures. 12. Ensures records and files relating to facility operations are well maintained, organized and available for review by auditors and City officials. 13. Ensures cost-effective facilities management through monitoring and controlling budgeted expenditures and revenue projections. 14. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position. 15. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position. 16. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work. Required Skills SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES * Skill in communicating orally and in writing. * Ability to organize and supervise all sizes of groups and diverse types of events, enforce policies and procedures, make mature judgments. * Skill in operation of computers and performing data entry, maintaining accurate records and statistics, supervising facility personnel, operating light and sound equipment. * Knowledge of office and business procedures, city policies, rules and regulations, applied health and alcohol laws and regulations. * Ability to work irregular hours and schedules, perform a variety of physical skills including but not limited to moving tables and chairs, mopping and cleaning, and setting up portable staging. * Ability to operate a variety of equipment including but not limited to the telephone, PC, copy machine, sound boards, kitchen appliances, and calculator. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS Requires an Associate's degree plus five (5) years of hands-on experience in a similar position in a multi-unit hospitality venue or hotel operations or similar multi-unit public meeting facilities, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Experience must include a minimum of six months at a supervisory level. Must have or be able to obtain a food handler's certificate within 20 days of hiring or promotion. Must be able to obtain Serv-Safe Certification (food protection manager) within 20 days of hiring or promotion. Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check, polygraph exam, and credit check. Must have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy. Must pass a pre-employment basic physical, drug screen, and functional assessment screening (Level 1). WORKING CONDITIONS While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is rarely exposed to disagreeable environmental factors. There will be occasional exposure to outdoor weather elements as the position requires working outdoors during CVB sponsored events throughout the normal course of the year.
