Summary

Summary/Objective

The main job functions are to set up, adjust and operate a variety of auxiliary binding machines containing several cutting heads, control surfaces, or other attachments (i.e. folders, cutters, collators, stitchers, drills, and other small various machines and/or set up automatic bindery machines containing multiple functions and station capabilities (power paper cutters, power collators and gatherers, power folders, power speed binder) which can be electromagnetically combined with other equipment and devices to produce a complete bindery and finishing unit that processes printed sheets into final books, catalogs, manuals, directories, magazines or other completed products.

Shift: 6:00 am-2:30 pm; M-F; 40 hours a week

Essential Functions

  • Inspect equipment for safety issues. Make needed adjustments to coordinate the multiple workstations on a single machine.
  • Coordinate with colleagues through all aspects of production.
  • Monitor quality, output, and productivity.
  • General knowledge of the more complex bindery machines for setting up, running, and troubleshooting.
  • Thorough knowledge of the setup, operating requirements, procedures, capabilities, and limitations of one or more bindery machines to perform the full range of standard and specialized folding, collating, and cutting of printed materials to complete a combined finishing product.
  • Ability to read and interpret written work orders or other job specifications containing bindery requirements which indicate the number and sequence of machine operations required to complete the work and to maintain accuracy in accordance with instructions provided
  • Independently makes decisions on the type of equipment to be used.
  • Knowledge of the quality and machining requirements of various coated and uncoated types of paper stock.
  • Skill in setting up and adjusting machines for finishing operations and refining such adjustments for the weight, color, machinability, and quality of paper stock being used and to prevent machining impressions on the printed materials.
  • Skill in using the full range of standard and specialized tools and devices to adjust and maintain the functional accuracy and operating conditions of the bindery machines.
  • Must be able to calculate distances, clearances, and fits in combining machines.
  • Skill in using the full range of standard and specialized tools and devices to adjust and maintain the functional accuracy and operating conditions of the bindery machines.
  • Interpret job instructions to perform necessary data and mail preparation production processes. Review job instructions for accuracy and completeness, and if discrepancies are found, facilitate the creation of new instructions with a List Services Representative
  • Tracking, requesting, and communicating postage payment and permit funding information internally
  • Understand and follow HIPAA policies and procedures

Physical Requirements

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Visual Acuity Requirements

Visual Acuity to Perform - Determine Accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. Make general observations of facilities and workspace.

WORKING CONDITIONS SUBJECT TO THIS POSITION

Subject to Noise: The worker is subject to sufficient noise to cause a worker to shout in order to be heard above the noise level.

  • Automatic Power Folder: 2 years (Required)
  • Automatic Power Cutter: 2 years (Required)
