Summary

Position Function

Perform field inspections and surveys to detect cross connections and ensure proper application and operation of backflow prevention devices.

Tasks/Duties

  • Conduct field inspections and tests of backflow prevention devices and make repairs/recommendations as required.
  • Advise consumers of the intent and purpose of the Cross Connection Control Program. Notify property owners of required repairs to backflow preventers.
  • Identify cross connections.
  • Install backflow preventers to include excavation and restoration.
  • Conduct property inspections/surveys identifying potential & actual cross connections & recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Maintain written records and data entry.
  • Assist in the development of records required by the City's manual of Cross Connection Controls.
  • Replace meters, meter boxes or curb stops as needed.
  • May be required to participate in the water distribution on-call duty rotation.
  • In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description.
  • Complete required trainings as specified within the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan.
  • Drive to and from various City work locations. Perform additional duties as assigned. Be available for emergency call-outs.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Six (6) months experience in a water distribution environment or valid TREEO Backflow Prevention Device Tester Certificate.
  • Valid driver license. Must obtain State of Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment.

PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid TREEO Backflow Prevention Device Tester Certificate (must obtain within six (6) months of employment).
  • Valid Cross Connection Survey Certification (must obtain within eighteen (18) months of employment).
  • Employees hired after 1/1/2020 must obtain a Level III Department of Environmental Protection Water Distribution License within eighteen (18) months of employment.
  • Willingness to adopt AI and emerging technologies.

Supplemental Information

Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and a criminal background screening.

Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12).

Position is considered at-risk for exposure to Hepatitis B during performance of regular duties. An acceptance/declination of vaccination form is required upon hire.

If selected, post-offer essential functions assessment is required to evaluate the ability to safely meet the physical demands of the job.
