Description

We are looking for a skilled Cost Accounting Manager to oversee and enhance our cost accounting practices within the construction/contractor industry. Based in White Bear Township, Minnesota, this role focuses on analyzing product profitability, managing standard costs, and ensuring accurate financial reporting. This position is vital in driving informed decision-making through detailed cost analysis and strategic recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive analyses of material, labor, fixed overhead, and variable overhead costs, identifying variances and devising strategies to mitigate them.
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of costs for new part numbers, ensuring company-wide updates are accurate and timely.
  • Review and manage obsolete inventory reserves, collaborating with the Controller to execute disposal procedures and adjustments.
  • Partner with production teams to monitor scrap levels and establish effective disposal or return-to-vendor protocols.
  • Supervise the cycle count program to maintain accurate inventory quantities and resolve discrepancies.
  • Prepare for external audits by conducting price tests, developing schedules, and ensuring compliance with audit requirements.
  • Participate in system enhancements to align with evolving organizational needs, improving cost accounting processes.
  • Provide detailed cost forecasts and analyses for planning, budgeting, and "make vs. buy" decisions.
  • Develop and implement policies to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the cost accounting department's operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational goals.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required; advanced certifications are a plus.
  • At least five years of experience in cost accounting, preferably within a manufacturing or construction environment.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, internal controls, and cost accounting methodologies.
  • Proficiency in accounting software systems, ERP systems such as SAP or Epicor, and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with variance analysis, including material, labor, and inventory variances.
  • Familiarity with budgeting processes, standard cost accounting, and manufacturing cost structures.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to identify cost drivers and recommend solutions.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
