Summary

Position: Corporate Quality Manager

Location: Lisle, IL. Hybrid + ~25% travel

Duration: Permanent / Direct Hire

Annual Salary Expectation: $150-175k range based on experience. Plus a 15% annual performance- based bonus)

Start Date: 2-3 weeks after offer (ideally early June)

Requirements:

  • BS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • 10+ years in the steel, coal mining, coal processing/testing or related industry
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 9000, ASTM standards, SPC, Six Sigma, and proven track record in improving quality programs
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Platforms, knowledge of metallurgical coal and coke, and foundry coke
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage tight deadlines, and demonstrate professionalism and a dedicated work ethic.


Day-to-Day:

In this role, you'll manage quality programs, ensuring product quality meets customer expectations. You'll lead plant Quality Managers, coordinate with customers to resolve quality issues, and facilitate regular meetings. Your day-to-day tasks include implementing quality audits, analyzing data to drive continuous improvement, and overseeing laboratory compliance. You'll also identify training needs, develop quality procedures, and ensure third-party labs adhere to ASTM standards. Essentially, you'll act as the corporate gatekeeper for all coal and coke quality-related matters, driving excellence in quality practices across the organization.


  1. Quality Management & Improvement:
  • Manage the corporate SCE plan with VP Commercial Operations to enhance product quality and reduce costs.
  • Lead and develop plant Quality Managers for optimal coal blend and coke quality.
  • Implement quality audits, corrective action systems, and support all quality-related processes and procedures.
  1. Customer Coordination & Compliance:
  • Resolve coal and coke quality issues with customers and facilitate regular customer meetings.
  • Monitor coke quality per customer contract parameters and ensure third-party labs adhere to ASTM standards.
  1. Data Analysis & Continuous Improvement:
  • Archive and analyze coal and coke quality data for future optimization.
  • Utilize SPC to monitor and improve processes and drive continuous improvement initiatives based on quality metrics.
  1. Training & Development:
  • Identify training needs for Operations & Maintenance on quality matters.
  • Coordinate staff to develop comprehensive quality procedures and work instructions.
  1. Oversight & Reporting:
  • Oversee laboratory scorecard, audits, and compliance.
  • Act as the corporate gatekeeper for all coal and coke quality issues, ensuring material contamination prevention and leading root cause investigations.
