Accounting Director/Controller
Role Overview:
The Accounting Director/Controller will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of
accounting operations and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
This individual will lead the accounting team, manage the general ledger, and drive the
accounting processes to meet the highest standards of accuracy and compliance.
Additionally, this role will involve leading a key project to upskill the company’s control
processes to meet COSO framework and PCAOB standards as part of our scaling efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
• Oversee and manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including general
ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll.
• Ensure the preparation of accurate, timely, and compliant monthly, quarterly, and
annual financial statements in accordance with US GAAP.
• Lead the accounting close process, ensuring the company’s books are closed
accurately and on time each period.
• Maintain robust internal controls over accounting processes to ensure accuracy,
integrity, and compliance.
• Develop and implement processes and procedures to streamline and scale
accounting operations in line with company growth.
• Lead the implementation and management of a project to upgrade the company’s
control processes to align with COSO framework and PCAOB standards, ensuring
the company is prepared for future public reporting requirements.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, and manage the
timely filing of all tax returns.
• Coordinate with external auditors and manage the audit process to ensure timely
and smooth audits.
• Collaborate with other departments (e.g., FP&A, revenue operations, HR,
operations, ...) to ensure accounting records are accurate and reflect the business
activities.
• Create, maintain and update accounting policies and procedures in accordance with
changing accounting standards and regulations.
• Oversee the preparation and filing of required tax documents and ensure compliance
with tax laws.
• Ensure the company’s accounting software and systems are properly maintained
and leveraged for efficiency.
• Provide mentorship and leadership to the accounting team, driving a culture of
continuous improvement and development.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• CPA required
• 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a senior
leadership or managerial role (experience in a high-growth, venture-backed
company or medtech preferred).
• Previous public accounting (Big Four) experience strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of US GAAP, financial reporting, and regulatory requirements.
• Proven experience with PCAOB standards and controls, with a track record of
leading projects to enhance internal controls and accounting processes.
• Hands-on experience with accounting software and ERP systems (familiarity with
D365 is a plus).
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams
and drive initiatives to completion.
• Experience in managing audits, ensuring compliance with audit standards, and
working with external auditors.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a demonstrated ability to
develop and mentor accounting professionals.
• High level of attention to detail and a focus on accuracy in financial reporting.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and handle multiple
priorities.
