Coordinate all activities of the School Library System
Maintain an interlibrary loan programs and updated union catalog
Coordinate and provide professional development opportunities to Dutchess County districts' K-12 school librarians and staff on various library and media-related areas such as library management, online resources, collection development, library automation systems, and curriculum and instruction.
Maintain ongoing communications with the communications coordinators, with the School Library System Advisory Council, and with other school or community personnel or agencies
Gather relevant data and complete the School Library System annual state report
Plan periodic meetings between the School Library System Advisory Council and the Communication Coordinators
Serve as liaison to appropriate State Education Department offices concerning system, member needs, and other matters
Develop cooperative activities with other School Library Systems, public library systems, and the reference and research library resources system.
Conducting periodic technical assistance visits to members and participants
Prepare, administer, and monitor the annual School Library System budgets
Represent the School Library System as a liaison with local and statewide committees and agencies, including library systems, library resource councils, and local, state, and national professional organizations, including but not limited to the NYS School Library Systems Association and the Southeastern New York Library Resources Council.
Develop and oversee management and production of a School Library System newsletter and LibGuide
Encourage and facilitate communication and cooperation among members.
Seek opportunities to increase the understanding of the essential role of the school librarians
Collaborate with the Dutchess BOCES Grant Coordinator to seek and administer grants from federal and state funding sources
Administer School Library System CoSer activities (cooperative collection development plan, library automation, and online resources),including management, planning, training, and coordinating regional user groups
Promote School Library System services and CoSers to district and building personnel
Supervise the School Library System support staff
Participate in local and statewide professional organizations.
QUALIFICATIONS: Per Commissioner's Regulation 90.18, the coordinator/director of a School Library System shall hold a school library media specialist certificate with a minimum of three years of experience and be eligible to possess either a School Building Leader (SBL), School District Leader (SDL), or School Administrator and Supervisor (SAS) educational leadership certificate within three years from appointment date.
Experience facilitating professional development and teaching adult learners
Ability to effectively communicate, written and verbally
Knowledge of New York State School Library guidelines, Empire State Information Fluency Continuum, and current school library practices

Availability to travel throughout Dutchess County
