The
Controls Project Engineer Team Leader is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the performance of the Controls Project Engineering team. This role focuses on fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement while ensuring the delivery of cost effective, integrated controls solutions that meet project requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities
- Leads the Controls Project Engineer team, overseeing career development and training programs.
- Establishes performance and development goals for the department.
- Analyzes team structure, workflows, and processes to enhance efficiency.
- Manages and coordinates staff, assigning responsibilities and ensuring project success.
- Maintains visual management of department goals and objectives.
- Oversee recruitment, hiring, training, performance appraisals, and coaching in alignment with company policies.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities per the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Include The Following
- Oversee the overall scheduling effort to maximize use of personnel and resources to fulfill project commitments
- Review contract documents, including construction plans, specifications and contracts to determine project requirement, and write requests for information as required
- Provide design review feedback to engineers or designers on any constructability issues, sequences changes for better energy efficiency, items that would impact customer maintenance, or items that do not meet building codes
- Create installation shop drawings, mechanical flow diagrams, electrical wiring diagrams, submittal packages, valve and damper selection, and as built drawings utilizing AutoCAD or Trane proprietary engineering drawing tool
- Select proper controls devices and prepare bill of material for ordering
- Provide Project Manager with an anticipated total cost for materials on project
- Responsible for finalizing the sequence of operations to achieve energy efficient operation while maintaining creature comfort within acceptable standards of comfort
- Provide system programming and software engineering for all projects, including field, building, and enterprise level applications
- Provide assistance to Project Manager and Controls Technicians with field installations issues, electrical terminations, support for graphic development, and test and startup
- Ensure proper system operability of projects by performing an engineering validation with Brady Controls Technician prior to project closeout and writing up formal report for feedback to Project Team and Quality Assurance Team
- Provide support for any third party Cx agent engaged in the project
- Occasional assignments will be given to review existing performance or service contract projects to ensure energy savings and creature comfort are being maintained throughout the life of contract
- Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers
- Support project team as engineering liaison when other Trane offices and resources perform engineering remotely
- Assist the controls sales team when requested to estimate validation, technical scope review, engineering materials and lead time assessment.
- Ensure safety procedures are followed
- Ensure that quality and client satisfaction are maintained
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, legal regulations, and recommended best practices
- Collaborate with all Associates to uphold the company’s mission and values
WORK HOURS: Monday thru Friday, overtime/weekends as required

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to use hands to operate computer keyboard, and telephone and effectively communicate with others. The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work environment typically consists of an office environment, as well as visiting job sites which can include ongoing construction sites, existing operating facilities, mechanical, electrical, and equipment rooms. During job site visits the associate can be exposed to wet and/or humid, areas with moving mechanical parts, elevated areas, excessively warm/cold, areas with high nose, and areas where there is the potential for electric shock or injury from operating machinery. All personal protective equipment shall be worn in all areas where required and shall be provided to the associate by the company.
Qualifications
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS: - Engineering degree (BSME or BSEE preferred) with a minimum of 2 years of technical experience in the Smart Building industry
- Familiarity with the concepts of commercial building constructions, renovation and/or retrofit work is preferred
- Must be proficient in reading/understanding a variety of HVAC mechanical plans/specifications
- Basic knowledge of mechanical codes required
- Understanding of electrical ladder diagrams, NEC, and basic troubleshooting skills for low voltage circuits is required
- Experience with AutoCAD or Engineering Drawing tools and techniques; computer programming experience preferred; working knowledge of Microsoft Office products is required
- Knowledge of Trane Trace a plus
- This position requires individuals who desire to continue learning.
- Membership in organizations such as ASHRAE, AEE, BCA, ACG, NEEBM, AABC are recommended.
- Licenses/certificates that are preferred are: EIT, CEM, CBCP, ACP, CCP, CEA, and PEM.
- Ability to pass drug screening
- Ability to prove US employment eligibility
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
