About the Role

As a Controls Engineer II, you’ll bring not just technical expertise but also leadership and mentorship to our high-performing team. This role is ideal for someone with experience in controls engineering, preferably within the material handling or automation industry. You'll play a key role in the execution and delivery of complex projects while also helping grow the next generation of Spring engineers.

In this role, you will…

• Lead technical efforts on controls projects, working closely with Spring Project Managers and Engineering Leads.
• Provide guidance, support, and feedback throughout project lifecycles to fellow engineers.
• Develop PLC programs using Rockwell Automation software.
• Design and implement HMI/SCADA systems across various platforms.
• Create device layouts and electrical panel designs using AutoCAD Electrical.
• Commission systems onsite—troubleshoot, test, and validate control systems in real-world environments.
• Work directly with customers, vendors, and internal teams to ensure quality and timely project execution.
• Participate in project scheduling and agile sprint planning to manage deliverables and timelines.
  
  

Requirements

• 7+ years of controls engineering experience, ideally in the material handling or automation industry.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field—or equivalent experience.
• Proven leadership or mentorship experience in previous roles.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to collaborate across teams and disciplines.
• Solid experience with Rockwell Automation tools (Logix, Studio 5000, FactoryTalk, etc.).
• Comfortable with AutoCAD Electrical or similar design software.
• Willingness to travel up to 40%, primarily for onsite commissioning and customer collaboration.
• Passionate about continuous growth—both personally and professionally.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and general project documentation.

• Experience working in a project-based, consulting-style environment.
• Exposure to customer-facing engineering work, with the ability to communicate complex ideas to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• A background in growing into leadership from hands-on field engineering work.
• Proximity to our home office in Nashville, TN is a strong plus, especially for collaboration and mentorship. While we encourage and support remote work, being nearby is highly valued for this level of role.
