Summary

The Controls Engineer in will be responsible for developing, implementing, commissioning, troubleshooting and programming custom HMI and data management systems and process/equipment monitoring systems within a die shop. In addition, the ideal candidate will have stronger interests in contributing to the design of robust and stable equipment, project execution and ramping up equipment until start of production.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in initial equipment conceptual development and carefully balance product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits
  • Responsible for implementing and managing continuous process optimization including the addition of advanced and conventional technologies to improve quality, productivity and reduce overall waste
  • Lay out new industrial electrical control panels which are NFPA79/NEC/UL508A compliant, and create electrical, pneumatic and fluid schematics
  • Develop & maintain proper documentation of all electrical equipment and associated procedures making updates as required
  • Implement (ANSI/RIA15.06/OSHA compliant) control reliable safety systems for safeguarding robots, gantries, conveyors, and other high-volume manufacturing equipment
  • Identify weak areas of the production systems using root cause analysis and first principles thinking and implement effective countermeasures using all available means
  • Develop and implement quality control methods including poke yokes, data tracking systems, part recognition and problem reporting
  • Optimization and improvement of human machine interfaces, SCADA systems and MES interfaces
  • Architect, develop and debug PLC code with an emphasis on generating code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable and reusable. PLC code will interact with subsystems such as conveyors, robots, Manufacturing Execution System (MES), machine vision, and 3rd party equipment
  • Participate in the development and enforcement of the companies standards, manage suppliers during the different project stages until start of production
  • Available to travel for FAT and equipment installation and commissioning
  • Define and implement test methods for complex equipment to reduce installation and commissioning time

Requirements

  • BS in electrical, mechatronics, or computer science or equivalent
  • 5+ years of professional controls engineering experience
  • Understanding of databases (MSSQL, MySQL) and various program languages (Java, Python)
  • HMI programming experience – Ignition and Scada, SAP
  • Advanced programming robotics skills
  • Proficient in CAD working with electrical diagrams and prints. Eplan preferred
  • In depth knowledge of Electrical Standards (NFPA79, National Electric code, UL508A)
  • In depth knowledge of Safety standards (ANSI/RIA15.06, OSHA)
  • Proficiency selecting appropriate circuit protectors, wire, cable, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, remote I/O, VFD , robots and servo systems
  • Experience with Vision systems (Cognex, Keyence, Fanuc)
