Leonid Group is privileged to be retained on a director level hire for a world leading aerospace and defence business, operating internationally but working out of Washington DC. They're seeking a Controller to join a newly independent business line and manage their financial operations.

The Controller is responsible for managing the accounting department an entire department within the US conglomerate, ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting and compliance with regulatory requirements. This role provides critical financial insights to senior management to support strategic decision-making.

The Role

• Oversee accounting, disbursement, and accounts receivable functions.
• Manage monthly closing processes and financial reporting.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, balance sheets, and journal entries.
• Ensure compliance with timekeeping systems for regulatory requirements.
• Implement and maintain internal financial controls and procedures.
• Coordinate annual internal controls review and financial procedure audits.
• Support tax reporting and compliance processes.
• Prepare reports aligned with Department of Defense (DoD) and other government policies.
• Serve as a subject matter expert in SAP and other financial systems.
• Process ACH payments, wire transfers, and SAP check payments.
• Work closely with the Supply Chain team to analyze and reduce purchase variances.
• Lead and manage all activities related to accounting, disbursement, and accounts receivable.

The Candidate

• Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
• Minimum five years’ experience in financial management and accounting.
• Strong knowledge of US GAAP and compliance in a regulated industry.
• Experience in SAP and finance modules.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Advanced knowledge of government cost accounting regulations.
• Experience with IAS/IFRS financial reporting.
