The Role
We're looking for a strategic and detail-oriented Finance Leader to join our organization and oversee the financial and accounting operations of our Asphalt Paving division. This role is pivotal in ensuring financial integrity, driving cost efficiency, and providing insightful analysis to support decision-making processes. As a key member of our team, you'll oversee all aspects of Finance & Accounting for the division, including budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, and a dedicated accounting staff.
Responsibilities
* Financial Leadership: Prepare and analyze monthly and annual financial statements, including profit and loss statements and balance sheets. Monitor key financial metrics in real time and provide actionable insights to division leadership to help drive performance.
* Budgeting & Forecasting: Develop and manage divisional forecasts and projections, aligning financial planning with strategic objectives and ensuring profitability goals for the division are achieved.
* Cost Management: Monitor project costs against estimates, identify potential overruns, and collaborate with project managers to implement corrective actions. Prepare construction contract schedules and analyze trends for continuous improvement.
* Accounting Operations: Oversee daily accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, and General Ledger accounting. Ensure compliance with GAAP and coordinate annual audits and prequalification processes with ODOT & MDOT.
* Team Development: Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering a positive work environment and promoting continuous learning and performance excellence.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, operations teams, and other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting and effective decision-making.
Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; MBA or CPA designation preferred.
* 7-10 years of professional experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a role with similar scope and responsibility. Construction industry experience is a plus.
* Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and general ledger accounting.
* Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems. Experience with Net Suite and system implementations is a plus.
* Experience with payroll, wage calculations, and union benefits are all desired experiences.
* Proven expertise in construction accounting, including job costing and project management.
* Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software with an interest and aptitude in staying on top of technological solutions that can streamline workflows and automate tasks.
* Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities.
