About The Role

Billfold is seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Controller to oversee all accounting operations. This key role ensures accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial reporting and manages crucial financial functions including payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, client billing, and tax compliance. The Controller will work closely with the leadership team to support the organization’s strategic goals.

What you'll do:

  • Develop and implement financial reporting and management policies to ensure compliance and efficiency
  • Manage payroll processing, including commissions and bonuses in ADP Workforce Now.
  • Oversee billing processes, invoicing customers, and ensuring timely collection of payments
  • Handle vendor and supplier invoices, process payments, and manage expense tracking
  • Manage client invoicing, support renewals and upgrades/downgrades, and handle billing inquiries
  • Address settlement-related queries from customers and manage chargeback disputes
  • Ensure accurate and timely accounting entries and perform regular account reconciliations
  • Prepare and file necessary tax documents, including income tax and sales tax
  • Advise on tax-efficient strategies and ensure adherence to local, state, and federal tax laws
  • Prepare financial statements and assist in developing annual budgets and forecasts
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to develop long-term financial strategies
  • Implement and manage financial software systems, establish financial policies, and collaborate with external auditors for audit readiness


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience in accounting or finance, with a proven track record in a controller or similar function.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and tax regulations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Google Workspace, and relevant financial and payroll software
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to translate financial concepts to different audiences.
  • Resourceful self-starter with an orientation for solving problems and thinking strategically
  • Strong organization skills, with high attention to detail and ability to multitask
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, scaling start-up environment.
  • Ability to work in-office regularly and operate standard office equipment and keyboards
