Due to ongoing growth, R.P. Marzilli is seeking an experienced Controller to be a key member of the finance team, responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and contributing to strategic decision-making. This role will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and work closely with executive leadership to support the company's financial health and business growth.
This role will require you to identify and resolve problems, communicate and work effectively independently and as part of a team, take initiative to maintain the momentum of the organizational requirements and exercise collaboration and attention to detail.
Responsibilities And Duties
- Manage the month-end close and preparation and timely submission of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Prepare, analyze, and present financial reports and KPIs for internal and external stakeholders, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Monitor and manage cash flow, ensuring adequate liquidity to support ongoing projects and operations.
- Collaborate with project managers and operations teams to develop accurate project budgets and forecasts.
- Track project costs and work closely with the project teams to ensure financial performance aligns with the budgets and business objectives.
- Analyze job costs and variance reports to identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
- Ensure compliance with all tax regulations, including federal, state, and local tax filings, as well as other regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate year-end audits and assist with the preparation of audit schedules and financial statements.
- Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial reporting.
- Identify financial risks, including project risk assessments, and work with the executive team to mitigate them.
- Establish and maintain processes to ensure adherence to company policies and industry best practices.
- Support cash flow forecasting, financing strategies, and capital structure planning.
- Evaluate the financial performance of key business units and recommend process improvements.
- Optimize existing general ledger software and data tools for enhanced reporting
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of up to 12 accounting professionals.
Job Requirements
- Minimum of 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of construction accounting, including percentage of completion, job costing, contract management, and progress billing.
- Extensive experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Proficiency in NetSuite and Aspire highly desired
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights.
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP, tax regulations, and financial compliance requirements.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Leadership skills with a proven ability to manage, motivate, and develop accounting teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field
