Description

We are seeking a skilled Controller in the Healthcare, Hospitals, and Social Assistance industry, located in Hayward, California. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing financial transactions, managing cash flow, and ensuring organizational financial accuracy. Additionally, you'll play a crucial role in financial planning and process improvement initiatives to align with the organization's goals.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, tax filings (990, 5500, W-2s, etc.), and general finance operations (payables, receivables, payroll).
  • Manage cash flow and coordinate with the CFO on necessary fund transfers.
  • Oversee reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reports to ensure compliance and accuracy.
  • Support preparation of cost reports and monitor contract compliance.
  • Conduct regular financial and inventory audits; review budget performance with program managers monthly.
  • Lead external audits (financial, tax, workers’ comp, retirement plans) and maintain audit-readiness through proper documentation.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of five finance staff, fostering collaboration and skill development.
  • Encourage cross-training to strengthen team flexibility and knowledge sharing.
  • Evaluate and improve financial processes for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and aligning financial plans with strategic goals.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting, or equivalent professional experience
  • 5+ years in financial management, with 3+ years in a supervisory role
  • Proven ability to lead and manage teams of 3 or more staff
  • Strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and ability to collaborate across departments
  • Proficient with accounting software, payroll systems, Excel (advanced), and online tools
  • Skilled in preparing clear narrative financial reports and analysis
  • Pre-employment fingerprinting and drug screening required
