Lifebanc, is the federally designated organ, eye and tissue recovery organization that serves 20 counties in Northeast Ohio. Position Description
The Controller is responsible for the preparation and management of financial reporting. Primary contact for the Finance department employees. Responsible for the general accounting, accounts receivable/collection and payroll.
Essential Functions
Partners with the Finance team to ensure all daily activities of the Finance department are accurate and completed in a timely manner.
- Ensures work performed is compliant with applicable laws and regulations.
- Provides supervision, guidance and direction to accounts payable and accounts receivable staff.
- Conduct month-end close procedures, including reconciliation of accounts and preparation of financial statements
- Management of accounts receivable and aging.
Complete all financial reporting and analyses to ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial results and sound fiscal operations.
- Responsible for the completion and timeliness of the monthly financial reports.
- Responsible for the preparation of the annual Medicare Cost Report in accordance with applicable Federal regulations and to ensure maximum reimbursement through the Medicare program.
- Assist with the completion of the annual operating budget to ensure financial plans are prepared in an accurate and timely manner and are consistent with established goals and strategic initiatives.
- Responsible for the preparation of all audits of Lifebanc’s financial information.
- Coordinates the audit of Lifebanc’s Medicare Cost Report with the Medicare provider intermediary. Ensure auditors receive all information necessary for successful completion of the cost report audit.
- Manages Lifebanc’s system of internal accounting controls to provide effective safeguarding of assets.
- Manages the recordkeeping for fixed assets to ensure the complete and accurate accounting for Lifebanc property. Supervises the periodic inventory of fixed assets and reconciliation of inventory to accounting records.
- Support and provide financial analysis for organizational strategic vision.
- Ensure compliance with local, State and federal regulations including tax filings.
Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
- Minimum five years’ experience in Accounting/Finance with a strong background in accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger and financial reporting.
- Minimum of 2 years of previous supervisory experience.
- Experience with PC based accounting systems.
- EAP Systems implementation a plus.
- Previous experience in the Organ Procurement industry and/ or the non-profit sector is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Solid understanding of Medicare cost reporting principles.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to effectively prioritize, ensuring work is performed in the most efficient manner and that deadlines are met.
- Sufficient attention to detail to ensure complete accuracy of financial data.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of financial and personnel related information.
