Summary

The Controller will oversee all financial activities of the organization, including budgeting, reporting, accounting, compliance, and financial analysis. The role is critical in ensuring financial transparency, accountability, and sustainability in support of our youth-centered mission.


Key Responsibilities:

Financial Oversight

  • Manage the day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Monitor and report on cash flow, expenditures, and budget variances.
  • Oversee monthly and year-end close processes.

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Assist in the development and management of the annual organizational budget.
  • Work with program managers to prepare program budgets and grant proposals.
  • Provide financial forecasts and long-range planning support.

Compliance and Audit

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations, and nonprofit-specific financial practices.
  • Coordinate annual audit and serve as the primary contact for auditors.
  • Maintain and improve internal controls and financial policies.

Grant and Fund Management

  • Track and report on restricted and unrestricted funds.
  • Prepare financial reports for funders and ensure grant compliance.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff and/or finance interns.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, development, and program teams.


Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of accounting experience, including 3 years in a nonprofit setting.
  • Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles and fund accounting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software Sage Intacct and Microsoft Excel.

Preferred:

  • CPA or CMA certification.
  • Experience with grant accounting and audit coordination.
  • Familiarity with youth development or social services organizations.

Compensation: $100,000 to $110,000 annually

Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
