Key Responsibilities

As the Controller, you will lead all aspects of accounting and financial operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, driving accuracy in reporting, and supporting strategic decision-making. Your responsibilities will include:


Financial Oversight & Compliance:

  • Oversee the preparation and consolidation of accurate financial statements, reporting packages, and board-level reports.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian, US, and international financial regulations, accounting standards, and tax laws.


Audit & Regulatory Management:

  • Lead all internal and external audit processes, including preparing audited financial statements and resolving auditor inquiries.
  • Manage tax filings and corporate compliance across multiple jurisdictions, including payroll, benefits, and employment-related obligations.


Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis:

  • Drive the annual budgeting process, financial forecasts, and long-term planning strategies.
  • Conduct variance analysis, monitor financial targets, and provide recommendations to senior leadership based on performance trends.


Internal Controls & Risk Management:

  • Develop and enforce financial controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard assets and maintain reporting integrity.
  • Identify financial risks and implement mitigation strategies in collaboration with executive leadership.


Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Provide leadership to a growing accounting team, fostering a culture of excellence, mentorship, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with cross-functional departments such as operations, sales, and procurement to support business decisions and streamline processes.


Operational Efficiency & Continuous Improvement:

  • Evaluate and implement accounting systems and technology to improve accuracy, speed, and efficiency.
  • Lead cost management initiatives and participate in strategic projects, including system upgrades and process automation.



Qualifications

To succeed in this role, candidates should demonstrate the following:


Education & Experience:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience in a medium-to-large organization.
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience managing accounting teams.
  • Experience in industrial, manufacturing, or plant-based environments is preferred.


Technical Skills:

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, macros).
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and financial reporting platforms.
  • Solid understanding of Canadian and US tax law, payroll compliance, and international regulatory requirements.

  • Effective communicator who can translate financial insights for non-financial stakeholders.
