Description

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President of Finance to join a growing construction company based in Austin, TX. The ideal candidate will bring deep financial expertise in the construction industry, particularly in percent-of-completion accounting, work-in-progress (WIP) reporting, and job costing. This is a critical leadership role for a scaling business, and the VP of Finance will be responsible for driving financial strategy, enhancing operational efficiency, and supporting aggressive growth initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive team, providing financial guidance to support long-term growth.
  • Lead financial planning, forecasting, and analysis to support decision-making and business scaling.
  • Develop and execute financial strategies that align with company goals and expansion plans.
  • Financial Reporting & Compliance
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting in compliance with GAAP, with an emphasis on percentage-of-completion (POC) accounting.
  • Manage audits, tax filings, and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Construction Finance Operations
  • Own the work-in-progress (WIP) schedule process, including analysis and communication with project managers.
  • Oversee job costing, budgeting, and profitability analysis across multiple projects and divisions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely cost allocation and variance analysis.
  • Systems & Process Improvement
  • Evaluate and enhance financial systems, controls, and processes to scale operations effectively.
  • Work closely with project management and field operations to improve data flow, reporting accuracy, and financial visibility.
  • Team Leadership
  • Lead and mentor a growing finance/accounting team.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, high performance, and continuous improvement.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience in the construction industry, including experience with POC accounting, WIP reporting, and job costing.
  • Demonstrated experience working in or scaling a fast-growing, multi-project construction business.
  • Strong understanding of construction project lifecycle, billing cycles, retainage, subcontractor management, and risk management.
  • Proficiency in construction ERP systems (e.g., Viewpoint Vista, Sage 300 CRE, Procore financials, or equivalent).
  • Proven leadership and change management skills.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication abilities.
