Our client, a well-known reputable non-profit organization based in Alexandria, VA is looking to hire a Controller! As a key member of the finance team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the organization while supporting their mission to make a difference in making our communities safer.
The Controller will provide financial oversight for all aspects of reporting and compliance, accounting services, grant accounting and tax compliance. They will also lead the finance staff and is the primary liaison with external auditors. This individual will foster financial leadership, efficiency, systemization, and discipline throughout the organization.
This role is HYBRID with 3 days in office, 2 days remote! 40/hour work week!

Controller Job Responsibilities
The Controller will assist the Director of Finance and CFO in overseeing all financial operations and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations.
Managing financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting processes to support strategic decision-making.
Collaborating with department heads to develop and monitor budgets for various programs and initiatives.
Supervising and mentoring finance team members to ensure accurate and timely completion of tasks.
Conducting financial analysis to identify opportunities for cost optimization and efficiency improvements.
Assisting in the preparation of financial statements, tax filings, and grant reporting as needed.
Contributing to the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.
Controller Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification REQUIRED.
NFP accounting experience
Proven experience in a financial management role, with at least 3 years of supervisory experience managing 5-10 staff members
Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis, and budget management.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey financial information to non-financial stakeholders clearly.
Proficient in financial software and Microsoft Office suite.
