Division Information The Pet Care business unit of Spectrum Brands is based in St. Louis, Missouri with distribution, manufacturing and sales offices throughout the US and globe. Job Summary This position is responsible in partnership with the Continuous Improvement Manager, for all essential functions for developing and maintaining a strong Lean culture. The position will focus on development and implementation of new Lean initiatives, as well as strengthening preexisting programs. This position is accountable for the development, planning, coordination, and implementation of manufacturing projects relevant to new products, machinery, equipment, and processes. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Lead, drive and facilitate implementation of Lean Six Sigma projects including, but not limited to SMED, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen Events, equipment footprint changes, etc. Implement and track Lean Sigma metrics that provide data for process management and indicators for future improvement opportunities. Applies Lean Sigma tools to improve production efficiencies while reducing operating costs. Train, mentor, and lead team members to propose, justify, and execute projects to reduce product/operational cost using Lean Sigma methodologies. Provides leadership and direction to cross-functional project teams Identifies opportunities for and leads Kaizen events to drive rapid step-function improvements. Works with production leaders and support teams to uncover and assess opportunities. Serve as a change agent in institutionalizing quality in conjunction with the manufacturing engineers and process technicians. Applies lean and six sigma tools to improve production efficiencies while reducing operating cost. Responsible for the coordination and implementation of necessary revisions to existing manufacturing processes to accommodate new products as well as enhancing efficiencies of current processes. Manage process improvement objectives through innovative application of standard and advanced technologies from the conceptual phase through the task completion stage. Assist in developing, collecting, maintaining, and providing key performance indicators (KPI’s) and metrics data analysis to support continuous improvement. Lead and direct root cause failure analysis of significant people, process, and equipment related downtime events; implement permanent corrective actions to mitigate probability of reoccurrence. Lead projects and/or events which address plant improvement opportunities. Provide event follow-up to monitor the progress of planned improvement implementation to assure timely action, appropriate support, and achievement of expected benefits. Use appropriate support, and achievement of expected benefits. Use appropriate measurement, analysis, and evaluation methods to accurately identify and document improvements. Partner with operations to implement automation in several areas of plant including automated batching. Evaluate production capabilities for New Product Development (NPD) projects. Develop and maintain standard work instructions for manufacturing processes. Provide hands-on technical expertise and direction to employees with machine and process problems minimizing equipment downtime and optimizing process productivity. Motivate, influence and lead employees to execute overall pet strategy. Education and Experience Profile Bachelor’s Degree required – prefer scientific or engineering degree 3-5 years of manufacturing experience in fast-paced environment 1+ year(s) experience leading projects, teams, and/or initiatives enabling efficiency, effectiveness, and tangible financial benefit. Minimum Green Belt or Comparable Project Experience Change agent with strong credibility and influence in the organization Required Skills Ability to effectively collaborate and partner with different functional groups Demonstrated project management skills required. Financial acumen to conduct ROI analysis on capital projects. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and utilize available resources. Ability to influence, motivate, inspire, and encourage team members. Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Detail oriented with strong organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to implement process and cost improvements. Must be results oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
