Summary

Overview Kemin is seeking a Construction Project Manager to join our team in Des Moines. This person will develop conceptual level cost estimates and manage assigned CAPEX projects as part of the Kemin Engineering group. They will work within the Corporate Engineering department and work closely with project teams and steering committees for assigned projects. The ideal candidate will bring substantial experience in industrial pre-construction estimating and construction project management, with a strong ability to lead projects from concept through completion. Responsibilities * Work and communicate well with all parties involved including internal stakeholders, external design consultants, special inspections firms, contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and government authorities having jurisdiction. * Lead project team meetings, steering committee meetings, owner-architect-contractor meetings and a variety of other specialized project meetings. Distribute accurate and concise meeting minutes with action items and track completion. * Serve as a representative at meetings, presentations, and public hearings/reviews relative to assigned projects. * Develop early conceptual, and schematic level estimates on assigned projects based on limited inputs. Work with project teams on scope definition and updated estimates with increased accuracy throughout design development. * Assist in Value Engineering by providing cost-saving recommendations while maintaining design intent and performance requirements. * Develop cost history database for various project types in alignment with current WBS structure. Expand on WBS structure to improve on future cost history and estimate accuracy. Work with PMs in various regions to ensure accurate data inputs. * Responsible for overseeing total design and construction effort on assigned projects from initial scope definition, through design firm selection, design development, contractor selection, funding authorization and project execution. * Develop and execute detailed and accurate project schedules and cost estimates in coordination with all parties involved. * Direct and coordinate activities to ensure project progresses on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with quality and safety standards. * Review design deliverables for accuracy and completeness and alignment with design intent. Incorporate feedback from internal stakeholders. * Ensure 3rd party special inspections are being performed and documented for all structural components. Ensure first work inspections and mock-ups are being utilized. Monitor and inspect quality of all work put in place. * Assist in developing punch lists and tracking completion. Assist in supporting commissioning activities and documenting results. Ensure contractors capture and maintain project as-built record documents and other close-out documents. * Provide ongoing status reports including weekly updates and monthly reports for all assigned projects. * Develop, review, and obtain confirmation of financial and project schedule activities for design and construction as they relate to all disciplines involved and report to management. Qualifications * Education and Experience: * Bachelors Degree in Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or relevant Engineering field with 10+ years of experience in construction project management and 5+ years in estimating and pre-construction, including industrial projects. * Ability to quickly develop project scopes, define assumptions and prepare preliminary budgets to align with business needs. * Has a full understanding of project scopes of work, contracts, scheduling and estimating. * Reads and understands contract plans and specifications; excellent understanding of construction materials and methods and best practices. * Understanding of requirements related to Authorities Having Jurisdiction including: zoning approvals, plan approvals, permitting, environmental approvals, fire protection approvals, special inspections requirements, etc. * Knowledgeable in site-specific safe work practices, legislative requirements, and standards. * Ability to communicate effectively in English. * Travel up to 10%.
