Position Summary

The Project Engineer is responsible for overseeing the execution of heavy highway construction projects from contract award through final payment. This includes ensuring the safe and efficient fabrication and installation of projects in compliance with plans and specifications. The Project Engineer will collaborate with stakeholders such as general contractors, architects, designers, project owners, public agencies, material vendors, and the general public.

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend and contribute to progress meetings with project stakeholders.
  • Acquire and review plans and specifications from contractors and owners.
  • Coordinate with designers to develop shop drawings and submittals.
  • Procure and manage subcontractors
  • Submit production tickets for in-house sign manufacturing.
  • Initiate purchase orders for products and subcontractor services.
  • Schedule material deliveries and installation crews.
  • Monitor project progress, manage costs against budgets, resolve issues, and ensure timely project completion.
  • Prepare and submit project invoicing in collaboration with Accounts Receivable.
  • Submit project closeout documentation, including as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, and warranty letters.
  • Secure final payments and release of retained funds from project owners.

Skills And Knowledge

  • Proficiency in reading, interpreting, and understanding construction plans, specifications, and municipal codes.
  • Strong project coordination and organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering (required).
  • Experience working with municipalities, private business owners, and governmental agencies (preferred).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, sit, walk, climb, carry, talk, hear, and perform visual tasks (both far and near).
  • Capability to lift up to 30 lbs. and drive up to 100 miles.
  • Ability to sit or stand for up to 4 hours at a time.
  • Exposure to typical office and construction environmental conditions.
  • Some overnight travel may be required
