POSITION GOAL:
The Construction Project Engineer l will oversee and manage various construction projects. This role involves providing technical oversight, conducting reviews, and ensuring the successful completion of projects within budget and on schedule, all while maintaining the highest quality standards. Additionally, this position will support the project's Resident Engineer by inspecting and documenting diverse construction engineering projects, which may include various types of civil engineering.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Applies broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
- Performs daily inspection and oversight of contractor's activities to ensure all work is performed in accordance with the project plans and specifications.
- Reviews industry policies and procedures to ensure data accuracy, security, and regulatory compliance.
- Reviews reports of production, malfunction, and maintenance to determine or address problems.
- Designs, implements, and communicates an operational plan for completing the project.
- Applies leadership and teamwork skills to effectively plan, manage, and execute work.
- Develops project schedules, budgets, and forecasts. Selects materials, equipment, project staff, and external contractors.
- Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments as needed.
- Communicates with client and contractor representatives.
- Performs/assists with schedule and submittal review, RFI responses, and maintains project records and filing system.
- May supervise engineers, drafters, and/or technicians on a project basis.
- May act in the role of Resident Engineer, Assistant Resident Engineer, Documentation Engineer, or Inspector. Assists with other duties as assigned.
Competencies
- Basic understanding of construction engineering principles as they apply to buildings and infrastructure projects.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Knowledge of common building materials, construction techniques, and best practices.
- Understanding of the inspection process, testing requirements, and quality control.
- Awareness of building codes (ASCE), industry standards (AISC), and safety (OSHA) regulations.
- Identifying and mitigating potential risks in projects.
- Ability to analyze on-site issues and prose solutions
Qualifications
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: B.S. in Engineering or related field required. Master's Degree preferred.
Licensure: Professional Engineer license required.
Job Classification: Exempt
Reports to: Senior Project Lead
Experience: Typically 8-10 years of relevant supervisory experience.
Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office suite; Working knowledge of CAD software a plus
Supervisory Responsibilities: Typically manages a small group of lower-level engineers and technicians.
Physical Demands: Must be able to sit, walk, stand, reach with hands and arms, stoop or kneel, climb, or balance, talk or hear, and use fingers and hands to feel/control objects and tools. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds on occasion.
Working Environment: This job may require long periods of standing or walking in the field and include exposure to all types of outside weather conditions, varying noise levels, and hazards associated with construction. Wearing the required Personal Protective Equipment is required while performing work in the field. The employee may also be exposed to a general office environment, requiring long periods of sitting at a computer in ambient inside temperature, lighting, and noise level. Due to the collaborative nature of this position, the work will need to be performed in the field or office, typically during normal business hours. A valid driver's license is required for driving to job sites (commute times may vary depending on project locations).
Continuing Education: Completes state required competency. Attends job-related seminars and workshops.
Salary Pay Range: $100,000 - $110,000 per year
