The Position
A D+H Construction the Project Engineer is a key member of the project team, working on-site to ensure the success of each construction project. The primary responsibility of this role is to assist the Project Manager and Superintendent in coordinating necessary documentation and communication throughout every phase of the project: preconstruction, construction, and closeout.
Essential Duties
To succeed in this role, you must have an understanding of project life cycles, technical construction blueprints, project documentation, and skilled trades. Under the direction of the Project Manager, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Project Administration
- Assist with initial plan and specification review to develop subcontractor scopes of work and identify potential constructability issues.
- Support the Project Manager with maintaining construction documentation, including RFIs, change orders, logs, reports, directories, and city or code-required documents.
- Coordinate and prepare closeout documentation, including as-built drawings and other deliverables required for project completion.
- Process RFIs, change orders, and submittals.
- Write and publish meeting minutes, activity checklists, and schedule graphs as needed to support effective communication within the project team.
- Develop a thorough understanding of contract plans and specifications to contribute to successful project execution.
- Other duties as assigned
Field Support
- Assist with coordinating and scheduling subcontractors on-site to ensure construction activities are aligned with project timelines and requirements.
- Evaluate field conditions, identify and propose solutions to potential problems, and report findings to the Project Manager and/or Superintendent.
- Support construction activities by assisting with planning, organizing, and implementing safe work planning, quantity tracking, and project controls tasks.

What's Required By You
- A minimum of 1 year of direct experience in construction project engineering or related experience in project coordination and construction management, preferably in affordable housing.
- Must have foundational knowledge of construction systems, trades, and building codes.
- Ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications.
- Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and possess project management capabilities.
- Ability to remain professional, thorough, and reliable
- Strong communication skills and the capacity to work effectively with multiple parties and independently.
- Proficiency in MS Project and MS Excel; experience with construction management software (e.g., Procore and Bluebeam) is preferred.
- A college degree or completion of vocational school is preferred but not required.
- Field experience is a huge plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a desk and using a computer.
- Visual acuity to read documents and use computer screens accurately.
- Manual dexterity for operating office equipment and handling documents.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds.
- Occasional walking and climbing stairs during site visits; must be able to navigate construction environments safely.
- Exposure to outdoor conditions and ability to wear personal protective equipment (e.g., steel toe shoes, gloves, hard hat) while at jobsite.
