Analyze project specifications, drawings, and attend pre-bid meetings to define the scope of work and estimate requirements.
Prepare detailed estimates with comprehensive backup documentation for review.
Solicit and evaluate project-specific proposals from material suppliers for completeness and competitiveness.
Develop cost-effective solutions by assessing material availability, engineering considerations, and quality factors.
Build and maintain strong, ethical relationships with owners, consultants, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Support operations teams on awarded projects, including estimating/pricing change orders and resolving contractual matters.
Collaborate with the Proposal Coordinator to develop professional proposals, ensuring all required elements (schedules, project narratives, organizational charts, etc.) are included.
Create conceptual proposals to assist business development and client engagement efforts.
Contribute to maintaining and improving the existing estimating productivity database.
Required Skills:
Ability to independently prepare accurate and competitive proposals.
Strong grasp of conceptual estimating, cost control, and estimating methodologies.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey bid inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications to owners and subcontractors.
Strong multitasking and prioritization abilities in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Project or other scheduling software.
Required Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Construction Management preferred; PE certification is a plus.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in construction estimating.
Experience estimating structural steel.
