Candidate:
Jenkins Design Build is seeking a Construction Estimator to play an integral role in the construction process. The Estimator will be involved in all aspects of the preconstruction process from review of plans and specs to evaluating project challenges and associated risks. They will also be responsible for completing takeoffs, soliciting and negotiating prices from subcontractors and suppliers, and preparing the project estimate for review with the client and/or owner’s representative.

Job Responsibilities:
- Create and manage takeoffs for materials and/or labor per the project plans and specifications in accordance with company defined take-off methodology.
- Communicate with the design team, consultants, and client to clarify scope of work, materials, and schedule requirements.
- Preparation and Assembly of project estimates through all levels of design, i.e., Conceptual, Design Development, & Construction Documents for presentation to the client.
- Review plans, selections, and project specifications to generate thorough and complete scopes of work for each trade to send with RFQ packages to increase accuracy of bid pricing.
- Coordinates and directs information including plans, selections, and specifications to subcontractors to request pricing based on the generated scope of work for each trade partner.
- Review subcontractor and supplier bids for conformance and accuracy with bid documents to aid in determining the value of the work.
- Build, maintain, and enhance business relationships with valued trade partners.
- Write material usage instructions for field staff to properly use material on the job site.
- Assist with generating initial construction schedules for estimating project duration.
- Work closely with the design team as part of the construction document quality control process.
- Prepares and participates in pre-construction meetings with construction team for the purpose of explaining project specifics, review of project estimates, and project risks/opportunities.
- Identify and analyze industry cost trends and their effect on current and future projects.
- Keep estimating templates in project management software up to date based on current company standards and practices.
- Identifies opportunities for improvement in departmental processes, approach, and execution of estimating and preconstruction functions; present recommended actions/solutions.
- Exercises initiative or, as directed, performs additional duties to meet the needs of the organization.
- Assist with estimating project change orders as may be required.
- Meet monthly with Project Managers to review budgets and ensure that change orders are being accounted for vs. the contract scope of work and properly estimated to capture all costs, risk, schedule impact, and desired profitability.

- Above average knowledge of construction principles and processes.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret drawings and specifications and evaluate risk of challenges to the project based on review of the plans and specifications.

- Proficient in analyzing and collecting cost data
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, strongly proficient in Excel.
- Proficient in BlueBeam a plus
- Familiarity with BuilderTrend Construction software a plus.
- Experience in preparing presentations and presenting related to project specifics, overview of estimate, and project risks/opportunities, and to various audiences including clients
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
