Summary

Essential Duties 1. Oversees the advancement and growth of the program. Gives direction and leadership supporting the philosophy, mission, strategy, and annual goals and objectives. Assumes primary accountability for disseminating and publishing all program information to create public awareness and support of the program. 2. Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans. 3. Identifies, solicits, and cultivates community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program. Develops the metrics to identify and measure the success of the program. Responsible for measurements of grant success and related evaluation. 4. Assists in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources, and contributes to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications. Develops and manages the program's operating budget. 5. Develops the administrative infrastructure of the program. Manages human resource and administrative functions of the program, including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling and discipline, if warranted. Oversees and manages information systems, facilities, and space needs. 6. Investigates, identifies, implements, and oversees the maintenance of systems to gather, track, and report information to support the initiatives of the program. Tracks all program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives. 7. Initiates, designs, and manages the compilation of program communications; identifying outreach potential, and promoting philanthropic and collaborative support of the program. Contributes to the development and assists in the management of content on the program's website and monitors all changes and additions to the editorial content. 8. Performs other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience Minimum requirement of Bachelor's Degree in a related field and four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Position Focus: Reporting to the Director of Community Engagement in Beinecke Library, creates, coordinates, and directs programs as deemed appropriate for essential library public program areas in community engagement. This position is responsible for successful program design, direction, and delivery which may include all aspects of development and implementation, including preparing estimates and detailed plans and coordinating implementation for all phases of assigned programs. The position will provide status reporting regarding program milestones, deliverable, dependencies, risks, and issues. Illustrative programs will include: design, implementation, and direction of community engagement initiatives, including programs with K-12 schools and civic groups, especially from New Haven and Connecticut; conducting research for the benefit of the local community with library collections and related resources; strategic planning and tactical implementation for Beinecke Library social media and other online content to serve public audiences; and organizing regular public tour program and guiding visitor services initiatives. Oversees the development of detailed plans and successful implementation of programs in concert with stakeholders. Directs several projects simultaneously and ensures that the design, testing, training, documentation, and prioritization objectives are met. Assists in refining and re-sequencing during the implementation and execution phases of assigned programs, as needed. Works on risk assessment, communication planning, development of performance metrics, and project entry criteria. Creates detailed project plans including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure successful project completion. Designs, develops, and executes surveys and other instruments to monitor visitor satisfaction and community interest. Resolves complex project issues that involve representatives from multiple organizations. Complies with standard policies and procedures. Develops, directs, and implements programs with community partners. Builds and maintains relationships with key New Haven community contacts. Leads library engagement with K-12 school groups, teachers, and students. Conducts research with the collections for the benefit of community groups and guide community members to do their own research with library resources. Presents research to and conducts workshops with public school and community groups. Supervises and trains New Haven Promise interns and Yale student interns. Collaborates closely with staff across Beinecke Library and all Yale Library special collections units. Develops strategy and content for social media platforms to bring more engagement and awareness of Beinecke Library and special collections, research, and programs with public audiences. May perform other duties as assigned. Preferred Education, Experience and Skills: Expertise in social media/digital tools for engaging public audiences about library collections, research, and programs. 5 years related experience working with public schools and community groups; and leadership experience with cultural heritage orgs, with priority for New Haven and CT. Substantial experience conducting research with archival resources and public speaking and presentations.
