Job Summary Responsible for the overall supervision, planning, direction, and execution of work for staff in the food protection and education unit. Supervises employees in complex technical function that provides food safety to the residents of the City of Dallas. Job Description Overview The Food Protection Supervisor coordinates, facilitates, and supervises the work of Sanitarians and trainees performing food protection, mosquito abatement, and other related services. Essential Functions 1. Performs non-routine and complex semi-skilled, skilled, or technical in supervisory work, oversees, and monitors the daily operations of sanitarian, health inspection, food protection, and mosquito abatement activities; assigns work, monitors inspections, tracks, and documents personnel time, and maintains updated software; evaluates, monitors, and reviews the quality of work performed and ensures compliance with regulatory agencies. 2. Implements plans, schedules, and assignments; checks service requests and ensures all Consumer complaints are handled efficiently; determines objectives needing emphasis; recommends or adjusts work priorities, project schedules, resources, and work plans as required. 3. Gives advice, counsel, instruction, and identifies routine training needs for code compliance staff; provides knowledge and expertise on inspection procedures, state laws, local ordinances, health and safety, food borne illnesses, and other related activities; ensures appropriate internal controls are in place and regularly evaluates staff and provides performance feedback. 4. Prepares monthly reports for assigned departments, audits and evaluates case files, determines incomplete work, and evaluates progress; tests and evaluates new software used by inspectors in the field, reviews ordinances and procedures, and makes recommendations for changes and updates. 5. Participates in staff and personnel management; reviews applications, participates in hiring processes, oversees training, resolves personnel conflicts, and approves payroll. 6. Creates and develops strong training and educational materials for new Officers; creatively and efficiently teaches new recruits to ensure highest quality of inspection and sanitation services. 7. Performs other related work as needed or assigned. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of municipal, state, and federal regulations; health codes and safety ordinances. Knowledge of inspection protocols, procurement regulations, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of food borne illnesses, cleanliness, and sanitation Ability to determine code violations and suggest corrective action. Ability to issue citations and communicate with various individuals Ability to interpret, educate, and apply regulations to correct compliance issues. Ability to use computer programs, software, and equipment. Ability to provide calm, professional, and excellent customer service. Ability to manage time and complete multiple tasks. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience as a Professional Sanitarian which must have included two (2) of the following: Food inspection (e.g. mobile units and restaurants) Mobile food unit plan review Conducting swimming pool inspections Temporary event inspections AND One (1) year of lead work or supervisory responsibilities. LICENSE: Registered Professional Sanitarian in the State of Texas Valid Driver’s License PREFERENCE: Five (5) years as a Sanitarian preferred Experience with the FDA Food Code is a plus Experience with mosquito abatement functions is a plus Salary Range $58,204.45 - $72,343.93 The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
