Examples of Duties
Must have a valid Washington State Driver's License; must obtain a Washington State Class B Commercial Driver's License with passenger endorsement and air brake restriction removed within probationary period.
Operate transportation service vehicles on specified routes according to specified time schedules; performs demand response services.
Assist riders from their doorstep or Link route stop to their next destination when requested.
Provide information to passengers concerning transit routes, city street locations, time schedules, public buildings and various points of interest; announce streets and transfer points.
Promote positive guest relations; greet passengers in a tactful and courteous manner; assist guests with boarding, seating, questions and related matters.
Secure all mobility devices in vehicles in accordance with established safety policies and procedures.
Inform passengers of transit policies and procedures; assist passengers who may have difficulty boarding or de-boarding transit vehicles.
Care for and turn in lost and found articles.
Pick and drop off guest through radio communication with Demand Response dispatch when assigned to Demand Response; be flexible to changes throughout the day.
May instruct coach operator trainees in proper driving habits, proper methods of loading passengers and other policies and procedures of the transit system.
Prepare required paperwork accurately, such as, but not limited to, manifests, lost and found tags and reports of accidents, incidents and equipment malfunctions.
Prepare vehicle for operation by following required pre-trip inspection as instructed.
Monitor mobile communications; report any unusual conditions, such as, but not limited to, accidents, passenger incidents and traffic problems.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Education and Experience: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school/GED, an excellent employment history with a strong customer service background, and a satisfactory driving record.
Knowledge Of
Oral and written communication skills.

Ability To
Learn and explain standard transit and paratransit operating practices and procedures.
Learn and practice safety rules and procedures required in the transportation of guests.
Learn bus routes, schedules, street and locations within the Agency's service area.

Learn map-reading techniques.
Be flexible in handling changes.
Speak, write, understand and read English.
Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Drive an assigned transit vehicle according to an established schedule to provide fixed route, demand response or route-deviated transportation services.
Safely operate service vehicles.
Work patiently with and demonstrate sensitivity to the elderly and those with disabilities.
Resolve customer complaints courteously and tactfully.
Communicate effectively orally.
Maintain accurate records and reports.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other Link employees and the general public.
Supplemental Information
May be required to install and remove chains during snow season.
May be assigned to other duties related to service operation and public information as needed.

Retirement
All eligible employees of Link Transit are required to participate in the Washington State Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS). Employees are not covered under the Social Security System except for a 1.45% payment for Medicare.
Employees are eligible to participate in a 457 savings plan with an employer match of up to 6.2% of annual compensation.
Link will contribute $1 per hour up to 2080 hours to the Teamster Retirement for all eligible employees. In addition, all eligible employees will contribute $0.25 per hour.
Paid Leave
Link Transit provides paid general leave for all eligible employees - accrual starts at 10.33 hours per pay period after successfully completing training. Additional leave accrues after every five years of service.

Coach Operators will have to work day, evening, weekends, and/or split shifts. Are you willing to work any or all of these shifts?

Qualified applicants must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License and have a good driving record. You must comply with the driving requirements on the job description. YOU MUST PROVIDE A 3-YEAR DRIVING ABSTRACT available from the Department of Motor Vehicles. Candidates successfully completing further testing procedures will have their driving record verified with the licensing department of the state(s) in which you possessed a driver's license. NOTE: Failure to indicate traffic violations on this questionnaire and/or false or misleading answers will result in the rejection of your application or dismissal if discovered after employment.
