Job Description
The Emirates Inventors Association is seeking a skilled CNC Operator & CAD Designer/Trainer to join our makerspace team. In this role, you will operate CNC machinery, conduct formal training sessions, assist members with digital design, and help maintain our fabrication equipment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with CNC operations and proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software, combined with strong teaching abilities and a passion for empowering others through technical education. This position plays a crucial role in developing the next generation of UAE inventors and makers.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain CNC equipment including mills, routers, and lathes
- Create and modify 2D and 3D designs using industry-standard CAD software
- Develop and deliver structured training programs for various skill levels
- Conduct regular workshops and classes on CNC operation and CAD design
- Create comprehensive training materials and curriculum for diverse audiences
- Provide one-on-one coaching to members on technical design and fabrication
- Assist makerspace members with design troubleshooting and fabrication processes
- Perform machine setup, calibration, and preventative maintenance
- Ensure proper safety protocols are followed in the fabrication area
- Help members translate their ideas into manufacturable designs
- Document processes and create instructional materials in both English and Arabic (preferred)
- Collaborate with other staff to improve makerspace offerings and educational programs
- Monitor and maintain inventory of materials and supplies
- Participate in community outreach and special events to promote maker education
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of experience operating CNC machinery
- Proficiency in CAD software such as Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or AutoCAD
- Understanding of G-code programming and CAM toolpath generation
- Experience with various materials including wood, plastics, and metals
- Proven teaching experience in technical subjects or maker education
- Strong curriculum development and training delivery skills
- Excellent communication abilities with fluency in English (Arabic is a plus)
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles
- Patience and adaptability when working with learners of different backgrounds and abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a makerspace, fab lab, or educational setting
- Knowledge of additional fabrication equipment (laser cutters, 3D printers, etc.)
- Degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing technology, or industrial design
- Teaching certification or formal instructional experience
- Portfolio demonstrating both CAD design/CNC fabrication projects and teaching materials
- Certification in relevant software or manufacturing processes
- Experience with educational program development
- Cultural sensitivity and experience working in multinational environments
- Understanding of UAE's innovation landscape and educational priorities
