Summary

Position: CNC Machinist

Location: Richmond, VA

Duration: Contract to hire or direct hire (DOE)

Pay: Up to $30.00/hr. (+ $3.00 shift differential)

Shift: 2nd Shift (1:00 PM - 9:30 PM, Mon-Fri) **Will train on 1st shift (6:00am - 2:30pm) for 3-6 months**

Job Description:

Produces parts by programming or running CNC machines, setting up, and operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine; maintaining quality and safety standards; keeping records; maintaining equipment and supplies

Responsibilities:

  • Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T)
  • Programs mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part programs
  • Sets-up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three- and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads
  • Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position
  • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces; adhering to international standards
  • Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes
  • Maintains safe operations by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
  • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs
  • Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications
  • Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments


Requirements:

  • CNC Certification
  • CNC Programming a Plus
  • Strong Manufacturing background
  • Conceptual Skills, Process Improvement, Verbal Communication, Functional and Technical Skills
  • Controls and Instrumentation and Tooling
  • Attention to Detail, Judgment


Working Conditions:

  • Typical manufacturing facility conditions (Indoors :95% / Outdoors :5%)
  • Facility is heated in winter, but not air conditioned in summer
  • Employee must be able to stand on concrete floors for a minimum of eight hours. Kneeling, squatting, bending over and standing for long periods of time may be required to perform assigned tasks
  • Can occasionally be loud, especially in local areas where grinding or machine testing is taking place. Ear plugs are provided for work performed where noise is a factor


Other note:

  • Must have own basic tools. List of teammates provided tools includes box/open end/socket wrench sets, Allen wrench set, screwdriver set, tap handles, pliers, combination square, 9" level and tape measure. English and metric tool sets are recommended
  • A lockable toolbox is also recommended
  • Safety glasses and steel-toed safety shoes are required
  • Long pants and a sleeved shirt (short sleeve at a minimum) are required
