To help fuel this, the Innovation team co-creates, implements, measures and scales local solutions to the everyday challenges people face in their communities. Our team’s three big tasks over the next 5-10 years is to help bring the Gen H movement to life through the Gen H Lifestyle Experience, Gen H Play Project and North Calgary a Complete Community Initiative.

Role

As Expert, Climbing, you are responsible for assisting with the co-creation, development, resourcing, delivery, evaluation, performance and evolution of climbing offerings. You will create and connect with our customers, community and employees in ways that are impactful in driving and advancing our cause. You will re-imagine, oversee and participate in evolving all aspects and functions of climbing’s daily operations to bring the Gen H Lifestyle to life. You’ll lead and build accountability and capacity in the climbing team to deliver strong results and impact.

Reports to: Sport Coordinator

Shifts: maximum 2 evenings a week from approximately 4:00-9:00 Saturdays & Sundays 8 hour shifts

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of climbing offerings including curriculum based and play based experiences, school activity days and participation in the delivery of special events
  • Explore, experiment and recommend new ways of building play based/ spontaneous experiences for the climbing area through a service design lens and build capacity in the team to do the same
  • Track, monitor and report spontaneous usage and impact; weekly, monthly and annually
  • In collaboration with all other Innovation Team Coordinators, continuously test and tinker, evaluate, recommend and design experiences for the climbing area and work on generating intentional value for our pass holders
  • Assist with developing business cases for the design and implementation of play based and curriculum-based learning experiences for the climbing area
  • Build strong relationships with our climbing audiences to determine their needs, what they value and translate learnings to the team to test and implement the overall Gen H Lifestyle experience.
  • Participate in re-imagining the climbing experience development process through a service design thinking lens and then implement and build capacity in the climbing team to do the same
  • Assist in seeking out and exploring trends and practices. Ex: experience and place making for climbing based and outdoor environments, new ways of experience delivery, equipment lifecycles and maintenance, etc and recommend solutions
  • Integrate and implement learnings and evolutions into climbing team’s work in “real time” as a result of experimentation and testing
  • Be accountable for the development, progress and evaluation of work-plans and performance targets for the climbing team
  • Recruit, mentor and performance manage the team utilizing Human Resources best practices to ensure a high-performing team
  • Empower and hold the climbing team accountable for achieving established work-plans and targets through the regular follow-up, feedback and coaching
  • Assess, revise, and revamp operational policies, procedures and training manuals to ensure they are aligned and support the new business model and team practices
  • Perform regular scheduling and payroll 13 part time positions: climbing wall attendants, climb wall instructors and 4 volunteers
  • Assist with the development of the climbing budget and understand and monitor key components that influence targets

Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Diploma and/or University Degree in education, experience and place making recreation, management, business, etc.
  • 2-3 years progressive experience in climbing curriculum and environments
  • 1 -2 years of climbing leadership, training and supervisory experience
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C/AED certifications
  • Required climbing certifications as designated by Vivo
