Summary

The Client Development Manager (CDM) will be responsible for supporting varied client development and business generation projects for the Industrial Practice in EMEA and globally. The CDM will be responsible for producing insightful and complex client-facing and internal business development deliverables, as well as managing and distributing the workload of two Client Development Analysts (CDA) in the team. The work consists of developing bespoke capabilities documents (quals), performing in-depth research, preparing original analysis and insights, handling other assignments as requested and ensuring content is adequately and regularly stored, distributed and communicated to relevant audiences. Over time it is expected that the CDM will focus primarily on the more complex requests and projects, such as tracking industry and talent trends, sustainability, CEO succession, diversity topics, developing a vision for the overall business development strategy for the Industrial Practice, while also progressively involving their CDAs in these.


The CDM will also act as a thought partner to the Global Industrial Practice Director, Global Insights Director, and Practice leaders, collaborating on various strategic initiatives, projects, or analyses. Within the team, the CDM will be providing constructive feedback to the two CDAs while keeping track of their development at Spencer Stuart.


This role will be based in our Amsterdam Corporate Office, supporting the whole of the EMEA Industrial region.


Key Responsibilities

DELIVERING OUTSTANDING CLIENT-FACING AND INTERNAL MATERIALS

  • Leads, drives and executes complex projects while implementing and promoting new processes and tools for continuous improvement and maximising client impact.
  • Continuously dedicates time and effort to elevate our deliverables beyond standard expectations, reducing rework and wasted time while enhancing the distinctiveness and relevance of our work.
  • Demonstrates high level of practice and marketplace knowledge and capabilities for client development activities; expertise in own domain is valued by others.
  • Develops a strategic vision for the business development roadmap within the Industrial Practice, aligned with both global and regional objectives. Gradually refreshes or creates new resources and deliverables to support the execution of this vision.


MANAGING AND DEVELOPING THE TEAM

  • Manages workload and allocation of work to team. Manages BD planning with the purpose of increasing business competitiveness and maximizing impact with clients.
  • Builds and leads the team’s ability to provide high-quality, value-added advice to BD efforts with a consistent, trusted approach. Prioritizes the development of the team, provides feedback and coaches to improve performance and productivity.


PARTNERING WITH KEY STAKEHOLDERS

  • Partners with Global Practice Director, Global Insights Director, EMEA Regional Practice Leader and Global Practice Leader on various strategic initiatives. Acts as a thought partner to the Global Practice Director, Global Insights Director and various Global and Regional Practice Leaders.
  • Builds and sustains lasting relationships with colleagues and key stakeholders by providing valuable insight and advice. Communicates effectively both in writing and verbally; demonstrates credibility and “gravitas” (executive presence).
  • Champions the Firm's values and culture; engages, participates and collaborates with others.


Required Qualifications

Successful candidates will be self-directed, collaborative, comfortable with ambiguity, detail-oriented, organised, and able to demonstrate strong project management & team management skills.


In addition, they will demonstrate passion and ability for working with people, communicating clearly, approaching challenges with maturity and a positive attitude, and collaborating within a global team to drive greater business performance. They will be graceful under pressure, enjoy fast-paced environments, and be excellent multitaskers to partner directly with our consultants and associates across the Practice.


Finally, successful candidates will demonstrate strategic thinking, business acumen and good problem-solving skills.


Work Experience

Minimal 4-5+ years of full-time experience in an international corporate environment, ideally at a professional services or consulting firm. Knowledge of (or a strong interest in) professional services or Consulting; leadership and talent consulting is a bonus.


Has experience contributing to major research efforts that include analyses of business, industry and talent trends.


Previous management experience considered a plus.


Tools

The ideal candidate exhibits a high level of expertise in MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word), enabling them to efficiently create presentations, develop compelling narratives, and proactively identify areas for improvement. The focus is on partnering with consultants to proactively drive solutions rather than simply follow instructions.


Experience with collecting and organizing information from databases and/or internet resources. Ability to analyze and synthesize data into other formats. Familiar with business reference resources such as Capital IQ, LinkedIn, BoardEx etc.


Experience with Tableau is a bonus.


Education

An undergraduate/Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree.
