Position Summary:
The Civil/Structural Engineer's primary function is to perform structural analysis, prepare technical reports, create design details, and provide construction and repair recommendations for various structural components of projects including residential, commercial, or industrial properties. .
Job Responsibilities:
* Perform engineering analysis and calculations, and collaborate with CAD technicians and administrative staff for preparation of civil/structural drawings including but not limited to construction/ repair of foundations, framing, and load-bearing components.
* Review data, drawings, sketches, calculations, and product information provided by engineers, architects, contractors or clients in the preparation of engineering reports.
* Perform site visits to assess construction progress, perform structural assessments, and advise on engineering-related issues.
* Review building plans prepared by others for needed designs.
* Review comments by local building code officials for determination of solutions or applicable design modifications.
* Attend project meetings and communicate with clients.
* Prepare detailed engineering reports, drawings, and specifications for permitting and construction. Inspect or ensure all designs and construction meet local, state, and national building codes, and engineered designs.
* Provide specifications for construction materials based on structural requirements, cost, and sustainability.
* Train with fellow engineering staff and senior engineers.
* Work closely with field inspection staff to complete field evaluations.
* Assist with development of proposals and participate in other business development activities as requested.
* Work closely with Manager and Director to complete projects within schedule
* Adhere to company safety policies and use of supplied personal protective equipment
* Travel to Firm's other offices, client offices, and project sites as needed.
* Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
* B.S. in Civil Engineering with focus on Structural Engineering or B.S. in Structural Engineering
* EIT Required
* PE License Preferred - Or must be able to obtain PE license within 12 months of hire date
* Minimum 3 years of related experience
* Proficient in CAD and MS Office Suite.
* Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
* Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to travel on temporary assignments if needed.
* Able to perform field work on active construction sites without restrictions, and in inclement weather if required.
* Must have a valid U.S. driver's license.
Work Requirements:
* Requires physical activity, including pushing, pulling or lifting up to 50 pounds, digging, standing, walking, climbing, crawling, bending, stooping, crouching, manipulating and working, sometimes in challenging terrain. The employee may sometimes be exposed to loud or noisy environments.
* May require occasional travel to offsite locations to perform work and work-related errands or to attend meetings.
* Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate technical equipment, read technical information, and to analyze complex data.
