When you join Design Group as a Civil Engineer, PE, you are joining a team that will challenge you and position you for growth. In this role, you will work with a team of industry experts to help the world’s leading companies solve their most difficult problems. You will join our Architecture/Engineering Process Practice and partner with seasoned leaders, technical specialists, and subject matter experts to deliver the highest quality solutions to our clients with consistency and accuracy.

What You’ll Do

You'll work individually and in teams to support capital projects and implement solutions for our clients. Together, you will help our clients make critical changes to improve their performance and realize their most important goals.

  • Support conceptual studies, planning efforts, property evaluations, site works, utility designs, storm water management solutions, city permitting, project management activities, and management of sub-consultants
  • Perform FAA analyses and site selection and planning activities including preliminary local zoning and environmental evaluation of endangered species, critical habitats, wetlands, and archaeological/cultural/historic resources
  • Assist in site plan design for industrial facility applications
  • Complete hydraulic calculations and analyses, and prepare reports for jurisdictional authorities
  • Supervise design using analysis software, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and HydroCAD
  • Complete engineering calculations and create design using AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Create and assemble complete sets of site construction documents
  • Develop project specifications using company templates, and interface with on-site and remote cross-functional project teams
  • Prepare and administer governmental site plan and environmental related permit applications (may require attendance of on-site governmental meetings and workshops at the local, county, regional, state, and federal levels)
  • Keep abreast of changes in codes and industry standards at the state and federal levels
  • Oversee and administer the activities of civil consultants (geotech, surveying)
  • Read and evaluate land surveys and GIS mapping, geotechnical engineering reports, wetland delineation reports, traffic studies, phase I, II, and III environmental assessment reports, subsurface location surveys, noise and sound studies, and wildlife/critical habitat/archeological/historic/and cultural resource reports
  • Help define site design concept documents
  • Perform site and facility condition assessments
  • Review project plans, proposals, and objectives
  • Assign responsibilities and build schedules based on project specifications
  • Design and conducts tests to determine project progress
  • Develop and adhere to budgets
  • Interface with outside vendors
  • Provide project progress reports to management
  • Recommend plan and schedule changes
  • Comply with state and federal regulations, and ensures a clean and safe environment
  • Make an impact day-to-day with your skills and expertise, strengthening that relationship with our clients and team


What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of seven years of site design and engineering experience
  • Experience with permitting at the federal, state, regional, county, and local levels
  • Experience in industrial site design
  • The communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with governmental staff, team members, and clients
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
  • Proficiency in producing construction documents using AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience in performing field facility condition assessments and in producing hydraulic calculations and analyses
  • Skill in supervising both support and design staff
  • Specification development experience within cross-functional project teams
  • Installation inspection experience
  • Experience in site design and report writing
  • A willingness to relocate to the local area (relocation assistance is available for highly qualified applicants)
  • A willingness to travel for project requirements including installation and start-up activities, client meetings, company sponsored meetings, trainings, industry related seminars, forums, and conventions
  • A bachelor of science in civil engineering from an ABET accredited institution
  • A professional engineering license (PE) is required
