Job Description

Are you ready to launch your civil engineering career in one of the most dynamic cities in the world? KPFF’s New York City office, part of the Los Angeles Civil team’s satellite presence, is looking for motivated and dedicated Civil Engineering Interns. This internship offers hands-on experience in a supportive and fast-paced environment, working on impactful projects across both New York and Los Angeles. As an intern, you will gain valuable exposure to civil engineering tasks, collaborating with experienced engineers and contributing to real-world projects that make a difference in our communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with designing, analyzing, and implementing civil engineering projects, including site development, grading, drainage, and utility systems.
  • Conduct hydrology and hydraulic calculations under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Collaborate with team members in both New York and Los Angeles offices, supporting project documentation and coordination.
  • Participate in site visits and fieldwork, including data collection and site observations.
  • Support project reports, presentations, and other documentation tasks.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program in civil engineering with at least two years of completed coursework, or enrolled in a Master’s program with at least one year of completed coursework.
  • Strong interest in a career in civil engineering consulting, particularly in site development and infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and AutoCAD Civil 3D or other relevant software.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods, reviewing plans and conducting calculations.
  • Comfortable with site visits, navigating client sites, and walking on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 15 pounds of equipment or materials.

Compensation: KPFF is committed to recognizing the valuable contributions of our interns by offering compensation that reflects market standards and aligns with the local cost of living. This role offers a competitive hourly rate starting at $28.50 and is based on experience and qualifications.
