Summary

LogistiQ is seeking an experienced, reliable, and motivated Permitting Engineer to create and/or review conveyor permitting packages against code specifications for sites across the U.S. and Canada, and to develop and/or rework conveyor system layouts using company products. Individuals in this position work from customer requests, order requirements or other specifications and produce permitting drawing sets or final system layout designs utilizing CAD software and engineering calculations as required. Permitting Engineers are capable of working independently and may be assigned responsibility for a permit set as a Lead Engineer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Create and/or review permitting drawing sets and calculations for accuracy and specific Jurisdictional requirements.
  • May require meetings with Jurisdiction reviewers via virtual meetings.
  • Lay out conveyor systems to meet the customer requirements.
  • Create engineering drawings for use in permits, proposals, and installation.
  • Create bills of material and routings for use in cost estimates and manufacturing
  • Perform engineering computations.
  • Provide technical support to shop personnel and installation personnel.
  • Perform Lead Engineer role for assigned permits including customer interaction, vendor communication, and project management as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This job has no direct supervisory responsibility although individuals in this position may be required to provide direction to CAD Designers who are supporting the assigned work.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge about one or more company products.
  • Knowledge of basic permitting plans and ability to interpret building codes.
  • Proficiency required in AutoCAD 2D. Additional proficiency preferred in Inventor/Navisworks 3D, and SolidWorks 3D.
  • Proficiency required in Microsoft Office software, especially Excel.
  • Ability to work with independence and initiative to provide leadership as required for a team of peers on large projects.
  • Ability to perform/review fundamental engineering calculations employing software or by hand.
  • Ability to team with our engineering, sales, and production personnel to meet customer needs.
  • Experience in Parcel/Distribution/E-Commerce conveyor systems and equipment design is preferred.
  • This position has an estimated travel requirement of 10% or less. Sometimes, travel can come on short notice and may include weekends or holidays.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering preferred, or Mechanical engineering degree with civil experience / background. Minimum 2 years’ work experience required.

Language Skills

Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and basic electrical schematics. Ability to read and interpret jurisdictional requirements for permitting.

Mathematical Skills

Proficient in algebra and geometry as is required to solve engineering problems.

Computer Skills

AutoCAD 2D drawing and layout experience; SolidWorks experience in manipulating models; Inventor/BIM/Revit experience creating & arranging 3D assemblies; Excel spreadsheet experience.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. Employee will spend some time on shop floor. Most of the time will be spent sitting in front of a computer and using the phone or headset.

Work Environment

Most of the time, the work environment is a pleasant, temperature controlled, professional office environment in a manufacturing setting. The employee works in the office but does have occasional interaction with personnel on the shop floor. In plants, the employee is exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is mixed but does not require hearing protection in most areas.
