Summary

This class consists of professional engineering work for the Engineering Department ensuring technical compliance with codes and requirements; coordinating capital improvements projects; and managing design and construction projects. Provide holistic services to the public by seeking ways to integrate programs or services provided by other departments, divisions and agencies. The incumbent works in partnership with other employees, departments/divisions, agencies and the public in delivering effective and innovative services. Community Development will also be taking applications for a Civil Engineer P.E. Preference may be given to that need. Salary Range: $39.79 - $53.83/hour Free Recreation Center Pass (Gym & Pool) 19 days paid vacation + 10 sick days per year + 12 paid holidays Excellent Medical, dental, & vision insurance 6% employer retirement match Wellness discount on insurance premiums available (Persons hired in this position must be able to perform all the essential tasks required by the position.  The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other nonessential or peripheral duties that may be required.  The City and County of Broomfield retains the right to modify or change the duties or essential tasks and additional functions of the job at any time.  Examples of duties are not intended to be all-inclusive or restrictive.) * Reviews civil engineering plans, specifications, and technical reports for conformance with Broomfield's Standards and Specifications, federal and state regulations, and applicable infrastructure master plans.  * Coordinates civil engineering plan reviews and permitting tasks with outside divisions, departments, and agencies, for new developments, construction in the public right-of-way, and capital improvement projects. Monitors the progress of projects so the goals may be obtained within the established timeframe.  * Coordinates quality control reviews of plans and permits, as necessary, with the Engineering Manager or Civil P.E. * Researches information and responds to questions from customers including other staff members, contractors, developers, residents and other members of the public. * May conduct studies, analyses, and research on a wide variety of topics.  May take a lead role in coordinating capital improvement projects. * Identifies and recommends changes or improvements in departmental operations to ensure assigned functions are efficient and cost effective. Works with the team to avoid duplication of service and to ensure that customer expectations are recognized and resolved thereby maximizing customer satisfaction. Advises manager of potential problems or concerns. * Represents the City at project meetings, workshops, administrative hearings, City Council meetings and other governmental agency meetings as necessary.    Education -Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a closely related field. Experience - Two years of progressively responsible professional experience that demonstrates competency in design review, installation, management, and construction of civil engineering projects as appropriate to the position. OR Years of related experience may be substituted for required education, however  education cannot be substituted for the necessary work experience. Candidates must meet the minimum required years of work experience NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: -  * Registration as a Colorado Professional Engineer with the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors or Engineer Intern (EI) with one of the fifty states governing bodies.  * Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License and safe driving record for continued employment. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday with some evening and weekend hours and may be performed in City/County work locations and/or, from at-home or other approved remote work locations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk, talk or hear, and stand. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms. Travel by automobile/pickup truck is required to reach project sites. Physical demands are described as light (exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Requires walking or standing to a significant degree. Data entry and other tasks may require sitting at a computer for several hours. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, color vision, and peripheral vision.
