The Chief Engineer is responsible for all administrative, financial, and operating aspects related to the Maintenance division. The incumbent will ensure high quality maintenance, and functionality of all interior and exterior areas of the hotel to ensure a consistent and excellent guest experience and health & safety of all guest and employees.
The Chief Engineer will be responsible for meeting or exceeding the set goals for the Quality audit, guest feedback (OSAT), cost control, capex management, Wyndham Green certification, Health & Safety compliance, sustainability metrics (water and energy consumption) and employee engagement within the maintenance team.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate the maintenance and repair of all hotel areas and equipment, including painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and fire protection systems.
Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs to ensure optimal functioning and longevity of equipment and facilities.
Lead and manage a team of maintenance technicians and engineers, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high performance and adherence to safety protocols.
Conduct regular performance on-to-one conversations and yearend reviews with the Maintenance team.
Schedule and prioritize work assignments, projects, and repairs based on operational needs and guest requirements.
Ensure that room maintenance requests are handled in a prompt and courteous manner.
Review and follow up on guest feedback scores (OSAT).
Prepare and manage the departmental budget, monitoring expenses, and controlling costs related to maintenance and repair activities.
In conjunction with procurement, source and procure materials, supplies, and equipment necessary for maintenance operations, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality.
Ensure effective preventive and routine maintenance.
Maintenance planning and schedules.
Conduct regular inspections and audits of hotel facilities to identify and address safety hazards and maintenance issues promptly.
Implement energy conservation initiatives and sustainable practices to reduce utility costs and minimize the hotel’s environmental footprint.
Monitor energy consumption and efficiency of mechanical and electrical systems, recommending and implementing improvements as needed.
Develop and implement plans to maintain property, equipment, grounds, and other assets in an acceptable state of repair.
Plan and oversee capital improvement projects, renovations, and upgrades to hotel facilities and infrastructure.
Coordinate with external contractors, architects, and engineers to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to required specifications.
Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations, as well as building standards.
Develop and maintain emergency response procedures and protocols, including disaster preparedness and recovery plans.
Respond promptly to emergency situations, such as equipment failures, power outages, or natural disasters, to minimize disruption and ensure guest and employee safety.
Follow up on all alarms immediately to determine the exact location and cause. Determine emergency status and report findings to Front Desk. Take immediate action as necessary.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, repairs, and equipment documentation.
Prepare regular reports for management on departmental performance, project status, and budget variance analysis.

BACKGROUND
A recognized Engineering / Maintenance qualification.
Minimum 2 years’ experience as an Assistant Chief Engineer within a similar-sized branded hotel
Business / hospitality management BA qualification is an advantage.
