Summary

The Certified Nursing Assistant will perform resident care activities and related nursing services necessary in caring for the personal needs, safety, and comfort of residents as assigned. Assists in providing a physical, social and psychological environment which will allow the resident to achieve the highest level of functioning. Performs duties in accordance with established nursing objectives, standards, facility policies and procedures and resident rights.

Major Responsibilities

  • Personal-Care (provide personal care for residents by assisting as needed or performing entire procedures when necessary) this includes:
    • Bathe residents in bed, shower or tub. Must be able to operate whirlpools or other types of specialty tubs. Clean tubs after each use.
    • Shampoo the residents hair in bed shower or tu Groom residents hair as resident desires in a becoming style. Assist women with makeup as needed.
    • Shave residents as needed using either a safety or electric razor.
    • Brush teeth of residents daily, including partial or full dentures.
    • Clean and cut fingernails as required. Clean toenails as necessary.
    • Dress residents in clean and appropriate dress, including underwear, stockings/socks and shoes for daytime and night.
  • Admission, Discharge, Transfer:
    • Assist in the implementation of admissions. Discharge and transfer of resident according to facility procedure.
  • Residents Rights:
    • Know the residents rights. Help the residents exercise and/or protect their rights.
    • Become knowledgeable of residents choices and follow those choices accordingly.
    • Report residents’ complaints to the nurse manager.
    • Maintain confidentiality of resident information.
    • Provide psychological support for all residents to help them adjust to their disabilities.
  • Resident Independence
    • Be able to assist with residents daily routines
    • Be able to help transfer residents to another place using a wheeler chair or stretchers.
  • Elimination
    • Changing out resident bed sheets as needed
    • Document any urine and stool specimens as requested
  • Meal Times
    • Prepare and assist residents for meals
    • Feed or assist residents as needed
  • Infection Control
    • Practice proper hand-washing techniques
    • Handle clean and dirty linens without contamination
    • Follow universal precautions procedures: use protective equipment and properly dispose of contaminated wastes.
  • Environment and safety
    • Assure a safe, clean and comfortable environment for the resident
    • Report any incidents or accidents to the unite nurse manager
  • Observations and Reporting
    • Perform and document resident care activities
    • Observe resident for change in behaviors or condition and report all pertinent information to the unit nurse manager.
  • Care Plans
    • Participate in the development and implementation of resident care plans according to facility policy and procedure.
  • Hospitality
    • Maintain a friendly, helpful attitude toward residents, their families, staff, volunteers and visitors.
  • Attendance
    • Maintain a consistent attendance record to ensure proper resident care.
  • Orientation and In-Service
    • Participate in required orientation and in-service programs and attend staff meeting as requested.
All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Completion of a nursing assistant certification program or proof of valid certification state and federal.
    • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
    • Ability to relate positively, effectively and appropriately with residents, families, community members, volunteers, and other facility staff.
    • Possess special interest in and a positive attitude about working with long-term care residents and the elderly
    • Acceptable references
Physical Requirements

  • A free of communicable disease
  • Meet facility policies and procedures regarding necessary physical health.
  • Must have initated primary covid vaccination.

The criteria for bending/stooping, standing/walking and lifting must be met to be employed because they are essential functions and elements of the job.
