Overview:
We're seeking a driven and knowledgeable Category Manager for Firearms to join our retail merchandising team. This individual will oversee the strategic sourcing, pricing, and merchandising of firearms and related products across eCommerce, and in-store channels. The Category Manager is responsible for driving revenue and profitability growth by delivering compelling assortments and developing data-informed strategies aligned with company objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and manage a category strategy for firearms, including assortment planning, sourcing, pricing, and merchandising to meet revenue and gross margin goals.
* Plan, recommend, and manage sales objectives, inventory turnover, and profit levels specific to the firearms department.
* Negotiate buying contracts, pricing, and terms with vendors and manufacturers within the firearms category.
* Conduct market, competitor, and customer analysis to inform pricing and promotional strategies.
* Collaborate with Inventory Management to ensure accurate stock levels for both everyday inventory and promotional events.
* Partner with Store Operations and Planogramming to optimize floor layouts, planograms, and category performance initiatives.
* Leverage performance data (historical, YTD, customer feedback) to define goals, track KPIs, and recommend new programs or adjustments.
* Maintain up-to-date product knowledge of firearms, ammunition, and accessories through continual research and vendor engagement.
* Support private label development and performance forecasting for in-house brands or exclusive lines.
* Lead execution of category initiatives and long-term strategy development to ensure alignment with overall merchandising goals.
* Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including marketing, inventory, compliance, and operations teams.
* Ensure all category initiatives comply with federal, state, and local firearm regulations.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
* 3-5 years of relevant merchandising, category management, or retail buying experience, ideally in firearms, sporting goods, or outdoor retail.
* Strong knowledge of firearms products and market trends; FFL certification or eligibility preferred.
* Experience managing financial metrics including revenue, cost of goods sold, gross margin, and inventory turnover.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with retail management systems a plus.
* Strong analytical, negotiation, and project management skills.
* Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with the ability to prioritize multiple projects.
* Familiarity with ATF regulations and general firearms compliance is highly desirable.
